other studios have the means to track that!!!
And if they lie about the opening weekend you will see sony making a group and suing disney.

Yeah, but Disney is clearly not going to play that game.. They've made it clear that they are not going to fudge the numbers, and therefore the other studios will have no reason to release the numbers they have access to either...
Thursday will be 8pm - 3am.. That's what Disney wants to do, get over it people!

Confusing plot + long running time = ouch.
$125m/$330m
Spiderman 3 wins.

Pirates is sure to beat Spider-Man 3, considering W.O.M. is going to be much better.

Are we counting Thursday preview numbers in the 3 day gross? We have since the days of Matrix Reloaded (Wed night in that case).

Let's test that with me..
confusing plot - didn't hurt..
long running time - didn't hurt..
So, yes, AWE wins

that'd be sweet for Shrek fans but it ain't gonna happen.
i think least AWE will do is $360m which SP3 will fall far short from getting.

watch the 2nd one again (3rd time)
It was pretty good especially after the villain was introduced. The kraken was amazing even on a computer screen. I doubt though there was real bad wom from the 2nd...

thursdays wont be included in iether the 3 or 4 days, so...
Thursday Sneaks-22 million
Friday-38 million
Saturday-44.5 million
Sunday-40.6 million
Monday-29.5 million
3-day-123.1 million
4-day-152.1 million
total: 174.1 million
Total:350 million-ahead of spidey, below shrek. I also expect 200 million this wekeend oversea,s for a 3 day weekend take of 323 million, good for 2nd biggest ever!

Well I e-mailed BOM and they said they will count all the midnight showings (that includes shows starting within 5 minutes of midnight to be specific, including my 11:59 pm ticket) as part of Fridays gross. So they will split up Disney's estimate when Disney includes all 8pm- 4am showings as part of Thursdays gross.
So this means that Thursdays gross will be lower than I thought with all of the midnight showings (10-12 mil) being taken out and being added to Fridays gross.

Well, it doesn't make much difference with regards to the film's total by the end of Friday. It just means that POTC3 will now probably claim the biggest day with $60m+...

It's going to be an interesting weekend of reading box-office reports. Everyone's going to break up the numbers differently. It'll be hard to determine which records it actually got.

I say:
$15m Thursday
$50m Friday
$46m Saturday
$43m Sunday
$36m Monday
That's $190m through Monday, $139m 3-day. Not too far off, I think.

In qubec, Pirates is huge (bigger than every Hollywood movie in the past few years). At CinemaMontreal, PotC1 has both the highest number of reviews ever registered AND the highest score of all time (9.5 for ~3500 reviews), so thats amazing.
So far AWE has 6.2/10.
The fall begins.

Barricade wrote: I can't beleive I'm saying this, but I agree with excel in saying that the Thursday previews are going to be VERY HIGH, but that it won't continue to be as strong throughout the weekend.
I think the Thursday/Friday will be huge, and combine should easily break 60m. But I doubt Saturdays number will be above 50m, and it could well even fall below 45m.
Honestly I think Thursday (including midnight) could be as big as Friday.
