It WAS entertaining. Throughout the entire film.

You were entertained when they went to the island (the one with the Kraken) then did 10-20 minutes of back and forth squabble on the Black Pearl, then the 20 minutes of back and forth between Will and Cutler, the 3 (if not more?) brig sequences, the looooooong and ultimately pointless (because they didn't actually fight) Pirate council?

Granted, there were a couple of good little scenes in there (the scene between Tia and Davy) and also the scene with the death of Norrington (who was woefully unused in this film) but I was astounded by how complicated this section of the film was when they could have very easily streamlined it, simplified it, and moved on to the next gaggy adventure.

They really sacrificed Will's character in this part of the movie now that I think about it. Hmmmm.

Yeah -- there's a plot. What were they thinking?

I actually agree. I will give Verbinski points for trying... I think these films are crafted lovingly, if not perfectly.

Despite the fact that I didn't like this version of Pirates, it wasn't an abomination like say... Spider-Man 3 was in my eyes.

There is a salvagable film in Pirates, and the acting and set pieces were decent enough.

If you're referring to this--

http://www.sithcamaro.com/singapore/

--then that costume was designed and created by the man in the photos, Toby Markham. It was not in any way connected to the movie except that he was inspired by Keira and Chow's Asian costumes.

Toby had made a couple photomanips just out of curiousity to see what Johnny/Jack would look like in the costume. The pics managed to get out into the fandom, and so many people thought they were real (though a few could slightly tell that they were manips). He confessed to making them after he debuted his costume (which was meant to be a secret) at Comic Con last summer. And yet even up to now there were/are people who thought it was real.

In fact, this picture is of Toby holding one of the magazines that thought his photomanip was the real deal--

What was with the dudes in the bathhouse? Did they have fungi growing out of their face?

I beleive that was the effects of the overuse of opium, just embellished a tad.

This movie was a jumbled mess of conflicting stories, and absurd plot shifts. Jack's hallucinations were pathetic. This movie didn't have nearly the amount of comedy the first two had. His zingers in this movie fell flat with everyone in the audience. Kiera and Orlando looked bored throughout the movie. The lack of chemistry between the characters was ridiculously poor. I loved the British ship blowing up at the end, but other than that, this movie was a big letdown.

BTW, why was this movie rated Pg-13. The sheer amount of violence and man on man killing was insane. Disney must have forked over some heavy cash like Spielberg did for Minority Report.

I thought the violence was no worse than anything in the first two.

By the way, did anyone else find Lord Beckett's ridiculously overblown death and that giant Tia Dalma to be laughable?

Yes. Somehow after the maelstorm battle, Beckett getting a slow motion blow-up walkdown was just silly and out of place. I think it would've worked better if you actually cared for him as a villain at all, over someone just there.

As for Tia... the giant hot chick from Dude Where's My Car, that's what popped into my mind first. CGI was also REALLY bad for that scene, she looked like a plastic blow-up doll.

Well giant women on screen will never be very convincing, I was thinking back to 60s Greece tragedy movies with the giants like Jason and the Argonauts and those Sinbad films when that came on screen

The death scene was supremely stupid but the only thing in the movie I found entertaining, it seemed to be pretty direct lift from X3 thou.

She's the sea Goddess, dude. Did you miss the crabs in Davy Jones' Locker? What the fuck did you think they were?

And Beckett's a great villain.

I enjoyed DMC but found AWE too long and some parts boring. Also the humor level now was more forced where I only gave it a few chuckles and didnt like how many back stabbing plot twists they had in the film, it just makes it too confusing. I definately agree its the weakest film by far of the series and even the big may films for that matter. Had it not been for the big fight across the ship I would totally miss out on the film

As said earLier, this wouLd have been perfect if not for the Looong taLks and the confusing pLot which misLeaded me a Lot. The visuaLs and action scenes (i.e. frozen sea, waterfaLL, maeLstrom) however, are the best yet.

A-, same as DMC.

Question: Was the kid who was shown at the scene after the credits the same person in the very first scene?

She is associated with the crabs. Did you miss the scene in Davy Jone's Locker when a few of the crabs went to her and under her dress? She is also holding and petting one, look at my sig. Her Locket, as well as Davy Jone's are in the shape of the crab. And the crab is apart of the sea, which both Calypso and Jones are. Calypso is the sea, Jones is in love with the sea.

No, that was a different kid, 2001. The scene after the credits was 10 years later. Yes, you could argue that the first scene was set 10 years after AWE, except that Becket was in that scene, and he died, so yeah.

The kid who played the son after the credits was the kid that did the voice for Wilbur in Charlotte's Web. Interesting.....

The amount of hate flying around in this thread is kinda disturbing. I mean, I can see why one would hate it, but really, what the HELL is with the berating by the haters here? I mean really, I'm annoyed by the fact that people gave such a mediocre movie like 300 As when it deserves nothing more than at the very most a B, but you don't see me posting an update every page going "Ugh people are such IDIOTS" Alright someone agrees with me!" Woo hoo, a bunch of people aren't on crack like those dumbasses that loved it, whoo!"

The film makes little to no sense after viewing, but it sure as hell went down well for me. Shame that's not the case for pretty much any poster whose tastes I usually relate to (Loyal, MovieDude, Shack, et al.) sans maybe Snrub and Dark Shape.

Seriously though, is this really worth 11 pages of debate in 48 hours? Oy.

They just want this thread to surpass SM3's. After that, the bitching will die down. But many of the people who disliked the film are irritatingly talkative, so this is hardly a surprise. Something tells me that the Transformers thread will get at least 1,000 posts.

I want you to see this already Box so you can ripppp it apart. Fun stuff.

I kind of wish I could edit out my "idiots" statement a couple pages back. I realize I was being overly asshole-ish and brash there, I don't know if I agree with what I said looking at it now... People can like what they want, end of story. I just wanted to inflict pain on Pirates 3 in all ways I can.

I can't wait to see where the alliances on that film fall. I'm almost certain everyone will give it an A simply to mask their disappointment and tireless hyping, much with another certain internet hyped action movie this year...

But I don't know if I'll like this or not! In this odd way, I enjoyed DMC's, even though objectively I'd hardly give it a C or something.

I've been trying to get my friends to watch it, but the film's so damn long, no one wants to, heh. Besides, the weather's so fantastic, I'd much rather walk around. It's like 20-25C here, Shack. Jealous? :shades:

It was actually about 15-20 C here today. My valley town weather system is so screwed, it was seriously snowing 3 days ago. Then it was windy and chilly. Then today as the first hot and summer day of the year.

DMC is a movie I appreciate much more after the 3rd installment. It's light and silly, but it carries a nice clear plotline, it's enjoyable, it has a good villain, and the CGI is amazing. Great popcorn stuff. AWE is a completley different feel and film, the Pirates series in general has had each installment so different from the others, it's kind of crazy how much actually.
