Love that we have a huge surprise at #1.
Love that Hitch is only down by 33% despite intense competition.
Love that Million Dollar Baby and Sideways had sizable bumps.

Expect Hitch to win the weekend though. It will have a stronger weekend multiplier than Diary of A Mad Black Woman.

Well, that's something you don't see everyday. This is the next Barbershop.
Hitch will still win the weekend, but that's simply incredible.

Hitch continues to impress. Man of the House and Cursed are in trouble. Diary is the latest example of a desperate comedy audience searching for anything that will make them laugh. Constantine is dropping faster than some expected. Great to see Million Dollar Baby still going strong, which should continue significantly, after it wins best picture tomorrow night.

[quote="Maverikk"] Diary is the latest example of a desperate comedy audience searching for anything that will make them laugh. [quote]
Are you being serious...have you seen the film yet? Diary of a Mad Black Woman isn't all about some Big Mommas House 2 thing that people seem to have driven into their minds.
I think the fact that so many people think that "Diary" is some stupid urban comedy is a testament to how its been marketed on many different levels - and alot of people aren't going to get what they bargained for . "Diary" is supposed to be a dramatic comedy with elements of that urban snazz; but more than not a film focused on the characters struggle through a turbulent time and how she emerges on the other side.
Its not hugely surprising [well on the scale its doing i guess it is] that this film took off - its one that always had the potential to do so, but rather was overlooked due to the track record of Americans at movies.
Its got romantic comedy, drama, comedy and urban comedy tied in. That appeals to a very wide spectrum of people and seems to be a workng, eclectic mix of demographic appeal.

I'm actually really glad that Diary of A Mad Black Woman did so well. Now, the score difference between those who predicted around $10 million and those who predicted in the $5-6 million range will be much more minimal. For example:
Let's say Diary makes $21 million this weekend (although it could be more, not really sure what type of multiplier to expect, since it is an urban type film). That would make a 29% for someone who predicted $6 mil, and 48% for someone who predicted $10 mil. Relatively small difference. So, in the end, it will be the 100%'s on smaller films that will make the difference for most people, I think.
PEACE, Mike

It was expected, BJ. It may have great WOM, but it was frontloaded. It'll drop around 55-60% for the weekend, though, which isn't that bad compared to other movies.

It DOESN'T have great WOM, hence, the large dropoff. (just as I said would happen)

Wow! That was surprising!
And amazing for Aviator and Sideways! Both lost over 150 theatres and still increased from last Friday! Really great!
