I think Million Dollar Baby has a shot, if Hide and Seek doesn't do very well.

Sorry, didn't see this one  I think you should unsticky the old, that confused me

Anyway, here are mine:

Hide and Seek - $17.4 million
Million Dollar Baby - $12.1 million
Alone in the Dark - $7.9 million
Sideways - $5.5 million

I think people overestimate Million Dollar Baby a bit. It's a movie to have good legs, but not big weekend numbers.

Million Dollar Baby will be opening in 1850 theaters next weekend. I think it can get an $8,000 PTA.

I think people are overestimating Hide and Seek personally. I don't see how it looks that appealing, and it IS rated R. Maybe 13 million, but I can't see much more. As for Alone in the Dark, I'd go with about 8.5 million.

The Butterfly Effect was also rated R and that got $17 million. I know that Ashton Kutcher had an influence on the movie's gross, but I don't think Hide and Seek will go too low. It's estimated to be in 2,800+ theaters, so I can see atleast a $6,000 PTA for around $16-17 million. I might be going a little high, but horror movies are usually underpredicted lately.

Well, the thing is that it had a PTA of $14,867 last weekend in 122 theatres. This weekend the PTA will be probably down to around $11,000. After adding 1,700 theatres, I don't tink the PTA will drop by just $3,000. I expect a PTA not higher than $6,000.

I expect it to be higher than $6000, with major oscar nominations it's going to get.

"The Butterfly Effect" are more similar to "Alone in the Dark". (Both of them are the kind of movies that appeal greatly to teens and young adults.)

"High and Seek" are similar to "Cold Creek Manor".

BTW, I think that "ARE WE THERE YET?" will become No.1 in second weekend.

Hide and Seek wouldn't be another Godsend, but it would be another "Cold Creek Manor" or "City by the Sea".

Nope, Hide and Seek has had a much stronger campaign. Its trailer is literally attached to every movie I saw in theaters recently.

"Cold Creek Manor" also had a very strong campaign.

I don't think it did. I remember hardly ever seeing ads for Cold Creek Manor when it was released. This film is also being released in a less crowded time than that was (that actually opened the same weekend that three other movies did).

Cold Creek Manor not only had a bad campaign, but it opened in the killer month of September. Hide and Seek not only has a great campaign, but with the way recent horror movies and January movies are going, I think it's almost assured to get atleast $15 million for the weekend.

January is very slow month.
I had seen many TV spots of Cold Creek Manor, they were very good(the trailer is good, too.).

"The Butterfly Effect" and "Alone in the Dark" are the kind of movies that appeal greatly to teens and young adults - they don't need to receive good reviews to attract their target audience.

"High and Seek" and "Cold Creek Manor" are the movies for mature audience -- they need to receive good reviews to attract their target audience.

Maybe, many predictions are based on the assumption that "High and Seek" will receive mostly good reviews. However, I think that both "High and Seek" and "Alone in the Dark" will receive mostly bad reviews .

If "High and Seek" receives mostly good reviews, it would get at least $15 million for the weekend.

Well, the thing is that it'll have to compete against Sideways and The Aviator which will get even more oscar nominations in my opinion and be stronger candidates. Also, it just doesn't seem like the kind of a movie to have a big weekend.

Were Hide and Seek PG-13, I'd guess it could've opened to nearly 20 million. But this is R, so it will be more limited to an adult audience, and I think they'll be too sidetracked on more of the Oscar contenders. That and personally, I'm just not seeing how Dakota Fanning as a serial killer is scary. Should it get good reviews, I'll boost my prediction, but right now, I'm expecting about 20-40% on RT.

NOTE: Oh yeah, and so far all the reviews I've read have been firing this movie to kingdom come, and the director's only other film was the classic known as Swimf@n.

There's a difference here: The Butterfly Effect actually looked interesting and original.
Alone in the Dark looks the opposite.

Predictions:
1. Hide & Seek - $15.5 (NEW)
2. Million Dollar Baby - $11.5 (NEW)
3. Are We There Yet? - $10.2 (-40%)
4. Coach Carter - $7.9 (-39%)
5. Alone in the Dark - $6.4 (NEW)
6. Meet the Fockers - $6.4 (-43%)
7. In Good Company - $5.7 (-40%)
8. The Aviator - $4.4 (-5%)
9. Racing Stripes - $4.3 (-41%)
10. Assault on Precinct 13 - $3.5 (-50%)
11. The Phantom of the Opera - $3.5 (-20%)
** White Noise - $2.3 (-60%)
** Elektra - $1.7 (-60%)

"Alone in the Dark" trailer isn't my cup of tea, but I heard many young people say that they like the trailer. (The poster is very effective to attract teens and young adults, too.)

I personally hope "Hide and Seek" hit and "Alone in the Dark" hugely bomb . However, when I do box office prediction, I won't only care about the taste of myself, what I care most is the taste of general public.
