Doubt that, its budget is probably more around 60mil and Marketing these days is about 30mil average, this being somewhat of a blockbuster movie and seeing as commercials are on every minute for it, i'd say the Marketing was close to 40mil

At least that is a great number for IGC.

I knew Elektra'd have a REALLY high ratio ;)

Several options lie before me:

A) Deny reality, lose my mind.

B) Try to change the subject to the war in Iraq, or Lindsey Lohan (depends on audience).

C) Start insulting people.

D) Eat the crow pie.

Tough choice :-k

Heh, there you go again! BJ - see the film next week. Maybe then it'll happen. Otherwise, don't expect too much from us Americans ;)

Libs and DP07, are either of you seeing it anytime soon?

For 2003 the average among major studio films was 39m in marketing. 2004 was probably higher, but the figures have not been released yet. 2005 should be higher yet. I would think that Elektra would be at least 45m, it's above average, and probably over 50m. It's a bomb. It may do well on DVD though. Riddick, Walking Tall, The Rundown and a few others were all huge hits on DVD that earned about double as much as in theaters (I mean 100m+, of which about 70% goes to the studio. Do the math, Riddick might have gotten 30m from theaters, but DVD will probably end up being about 80m). However, even so, it's not easy to see how Elektra will turn a profit.

BTW, I could find the link for the 2003 39m average if you want.

Bueno!

It'd be on my Top 5, but I think I'm just going to push it two days to '05. I kinda like having Shaun of the Dead on the list anyways, heh. Enjoy it but don't expect to laugh much.

I think it will increase atleast 500 theaters it seems this may be the largest opening for a film that is in less than 1600 screens, the average is better than most also this film could easily hit 100m Ive looked at many films in the last hour and this ones opening wknd in the amount of theaters its in screams for 100m easy

Perhaps Oscar buzz will help Elektra out (as it will for Fat Albert)?

Not this year, but I'm willing to bet Garner's the early frontrunner for Best Actress next year.

Except you have to remember that on the "old days" legs were better. Even with an expansion, a multiplier of over 7 is extraordinarily difficult these days for any film not released in late December.

Especially considering that it's the time when oscar hopefuls will start taking over (i.e. Million Dollar Baby, Sideways, The Aviator, Hotel Rwanda) with other films that don't have some definite appeal being rather forgotten. It will have good legs, but I don't see it going beyond $75 million.

thats another reason that the theater expantion was desined  its going to open over 15m in less than 2000 theaters thats hard enough to do these days. Its going to expand into over 2000 theaters next wknd I think and expantion in the 800 theater to 1000 theater range should be expected. As for the legs, great WOM is all this film needs for legs, I suspect that this will be the tipe of film that performs well off the great WOM its getting  The Ring came out in 02 to 15m in 400 400 more theaters thats a big difference considering there opening with the same amount of money. The Ring had a 650 theater seconmd wknd boost in 02 giving a 22% or 23% increase over the wknd before. I think this film will out perform The Ring once again next wknd it will get a bigger boost in theaters causing its increase to be on a larger scale. 20m is not out of the question, and I think it will happen. The Ring made it to 100m in 5 week only 5 I think this film can do it in the same amount of time if give or take a week. This film is out performing the competition and the older films I trhink that will continue
