Re: Smile (2022)
Its a bad film, a boring rip off of It Follows, and its such a shame because it really does have a great opening, but then falls flat after it.

I was so into it. But the ending kinda underwhelms

Re: Smile (2022)
This was decent but unspectacular for me, it really does play like a lesser version of The Ring and It Follows and aside from a few jump scares wasn't all that scary. Sosie Bacon gives a good performance but I found the way her character was written to be rather annoying. Visually it's pretty stunning though, Parker Finn has a bright future as a filmmaker. Still, it was entertaining. B-

I liked this a lot. Has some creepy moments. Sosie Bacon is very good and Kyle Gallner has never been hotter. My God! Also I thought the ending was awesome.
Bring on the sequel. I just hope Kyle Gallner is the lead for that one.

Re: Smile (2022)
This was a pretty effective chiller, and one that's refreshingly not made by or connected to Blumhouse. It reminded me of some J-horror films, such as The Grudge and The Ring in how it's made but also the death-is-inescapable aspect. There are some well executed frights here, most notably her giant mother creature near the end. But I also must say that its success is a little surprising. I really didn't see anything $100 million worthy. Regardless, it does its job well, and I guess it is the best scary movie of its release window.

Re: Smile (2022)
It’s solid though I can’t fathom the WOM success of this vs a film like Barbarian, even though I’m happy for its success.
I’ll likely rewatch as I was sleepy and dozed off a few times (not because of the film)

Re: Smile (2022)
I came in with big expectations after Smile became a box office / word of mouth sensation.
It did not live up to them, but there's still a lot to like here. The Smile monster itself does deserve to be recognized as an instant classic horror villain, especially in its full size. This series could continue on however long it wanted to and would always produce striking imagery with them. And the movie has some very interesting ideas about how suiciders pass their trauma onto other people, which is the opposite of their intention ("I don't wanna be a burden." - well you now you always will be.)
But at the end of the day it is just too derivative of other / better horror movies to stand out as anything special to me. I'll watch Smile 2, but I don't see myself revisiting this one when I could just as easily pop on It Follows or The Ring.
