Re: Release Date Change Thread
Ding ding the bitch is dead.
No Time To Die moves to April 2021.
And with that theaters should just call it a day and close for the rest of the year imho

Re: Release Date Change Thread
If studios are going to continue to delay their films theatrically in the U.S., they should just start releasing these films theatrically internationally where many markets are recovering, and VOD them in the U.S. for the foreseeable future.
It's just going to be a constant trend of delay and delay, as it has been, because the U.S. is going to continue to struggle with this well into next year.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I have been saying the same thing. Delaying these movies every few months is not the right strategy and its not like studios don't know this is not coming. They can still market movies digitally in US if incase the moviegoing situations improves but I just don't think its going to happen till mid-2021 to be honest.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Yeah... not really sure what's gonna happen. Moving everything is really gonna fuck up theaters in general if there's nothing to play for months. Maybe studios will end up buying theaters afterall.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Yeah like I understand theaters want more money but theaters won’t be back to normal for many months. They’d be better to take less money for individual movies now than to wait until theaters are forced out of business to release.

One of my local theaters lets you rent out an entire screen for $99. Then you get a few different choices like Tenet or Empire Strikes Back. All of those were sold out today. I don’t know if this will be enough to offset the costs until new movies come back, but I could see it working decently for the rest of the year with Halloween and Christmas themed movies.

Disney should put every episode of The Mandalorian season 2 in theaters for one week before it airs. I think people would be into that.

That is a great idea though I still believe they should put in huge blockbusters and start doing reserved socially distant seating arrangements so that studios can get some confidence back on theaters.

I guess it's not a bad idea. Theatres are empty anyway. This way they probably break even on the direct cost of the screening for 2 hours ($99) and then hope to make money on popcorn/drinks etc

Studios are really being stupid they cannot expect everything to go back to normal if they keep delaying all big blockbusters.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
Er... what? Lol
This seems like a dumb idea. I mean I guess I shouldn't complain as we're getting it for free but I just don't see what the hell is going to happen with movies. So bizarre.

Re: Release Date Change Thread
The studios are killing themselves. Certainly not helping things. At this point even a limited 2 week theatre run and the streaming would help struggling theatre and also keep the $$ coming in.

I declare this a TKO victor in favor of covid19.
How long until AMC stays open after this? And no way WW drops on Xmas. Just no. Tick tock on that WW push to 2021

Re: Release Date Change Thread
I don’t understand why the studios keep pushing films, like do they expect theaters to still exist if nothing gets released? Even if it’s a quick run, would definitely help the bottom line to get some sort of gross, I think. Even if a vaccination became widely available, surely business will still be down for awhile.
