Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
Too late to replace her before the election (?), but it just makes the stakes even higher
RIP to a tough lady

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
RIP. This was the #1 reason to not vote Trump back in 2016. I know she was the type of person who didn't mind fighting and sticking it out, but it's also a bit of a shame she had to go in her position like this in order to keep human rights from falling back 50-years instead of retiring years ago on her own terms.
Mitch McConnell is going to push through whoever Trump nominates. Surely no one believes they're going to let this opportunity, a truly once in a lifetime opportunity, slip them by. And surely no one thinks any of the GOP Senators besides Romney will be persuaded to switch sides, even those in serious danger of losing their seats like Susan "I'm Concerned" Collins this November.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
If he tries to put someone in before the election making it the major story of the next 7 weeks, it would risk energizing the Democrat voters. It would be a good litmus test of how confident Trump is as if he's convinced he's a lock to win he shouldn't fill the seat now.
I guess he can technically fill it in November and December after a loss? But that would feel wrong and maybe more Republican senators would flip against it.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
They’ll wait until after the election and then make it their mission to put in a judge

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
McConnell released a statement a mere hour after the announcement of her death saying the Senate will vote on Trump's nominee.
Trump and the GOP, Romney and Murkowski aside (both confirming they won't vote tonight), will get this through, or do everything possible to get a vote on the floor. This is the dream GOP scenario, and they're going to give it their all to get it accomplished.

Please hurry Mitch McConnell. Let’s get one more before it’s too late.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
Sad that they can vote on a judge but not a stimulus package. This might be a terrible decision, but this might be a sign the GOP thinks they will lose the election

The Democrats getting 4 Republicans to flip seems pretty doable.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
So McConnell didn't let Obama get a justice replacement in at the end of his term saying the president being elected should do that. He went on to brag about this. Now with a similar situation he's doing the exact opposite.
That is so hypocritical and disgusting.
Not at all surprised.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
If Biden wins, he should just threaten every necessary GOP Senator with deserved prosecution unless they hold off.

RBG and Scalia being able to disagree and still have a great relationship is admirable compared to the current environment

John Roberts votes with the liberal judges nowadays, so whoever gets RBG’s seat will pretty much decides the majority vote.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
The next few months are going to be ugly. There's real, impactful concern that's completely separate from politics to be found in all this, but it's going to be overwhelmingly drowned out by the fighting and behavior from most of whom have little or no concern to even be had.

I don’t know how people can keep defending McConnell and take any sort of moral high ground afterwords

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
I can't believe in four years how Trump continues to surprise me in fresh and exciting ways, but I genuinely thought he may have waited until Ruth's body wasn't still warm before he jumped at stirring up his base on Twitter about selecting the next Supreme Court Justice. I was wrong.

It's a product of media, social and otherwise, that suggests everyone hates each other. It's the fringe on both sides that make us think liberals and conservatives can never, and most importantly, SHOULD NEVER be friends.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsburg dies
Trump can put the Democrats in a very awkward position if he nominates a hispanic female from Florida in Barbara Lagoa. The oddsmakers have her and Amy Coney Barrett who is very conservative/religious as having the best chance.

To provide some much need lightheartedness in these times where common ground has literally cracked in half:
Seriously though, strive to form relationships like those two had.

Yeah, pretty obvious the GOP thinks they’re going to lose this election
