Re: Tenet predictions
I hope this does really well at the theaters that are open and maybe other studios will start releasing some movies. I know there's a pandemic but restaurants are open and if we can have seats at theaters separated and require masks and such it would be nice to be able to see movies again. I'd probably be more cautious again once cold and flu season hits though. But I'd certainly take a chance on it now.

But if they actually have something I'm interested in showing in a theater I'd take a chance.

Nolan really, really wants you to see this on the big screen.

Re: Tenet predictions
‘Tenet’ Tickets Go on Sale Friday, August 21 — Exclusive Theaters that play “Tenet” must agree to pay Warner Bros. 63 percent of the gross, and to uphold mask-wearing safety standards. “Tenet” must have the largest non-IMAX screen each week, until otherwise agreed • Single screens – 4 weeks, with a third-weekend holdover figure determinant in place • Twins – 5+ weeks • 3 to 8 screens – 8 weeks • 9+ screens – 12 weeks And many many useful information that worth reading regarding theater deal with WB from https://www.indiewire.com/2020/08/tenet ... 234580302/

Re: Tenet predictions
Tenet will finally get Christopher Nolan his overdue Best Director Oscar and DGA, as the Hollywood community expresses their appreciation to him for trying to save the movie industry.

It could happen though all depends on how many Oscar bait movies get theatrical release with extended release eligibility window. I think in the past he was not nominated because most of his movies look and feel similar and from trailers Tenet seems to follow suit.

Re: Tenet predictions
This is a very strong evidence that the studio still has power over Nolan. Certain scenes from Christopher Nolan's Tenet have been removed by the BBFC ahead of its UK release to ensure the movie gets a 12A rating. https://screenrant.com/tenet-edited-uk- ... her-nolan/Basically violating Nolan's second taboo, the first one being VOD-first release.

Re: Tenet predictions
Of course they have power over him. If he had raised the $200m it cost to make this movie then he'd have power, but he didn't.

Re: Tenet predictions
Was that ever in question? All the marketing team is doing is keeping Nolan's name forefront because he is a "sell-able" asset. In the background its just WB making decisions and I bet eventually they would have caved for VOD as well.

Re: Tenet predictions
Those are just okay for a movie like this. Even the favorable reviews seem to agree that it's not the best effort from Nolan.

Re: Tenet predictions
I'm excited to see what Tenet does specifically in the UK next week seen as Inception 10th Anniversary just opened with £200K. I could see £500K+ especially with 2 preview days before the weekend.

Re: Tenet predictions
PTA for Tenet will be strong in the US. But without NY and LA, it’s hard to see it doing much more than 20m OW.

Re: Tenet predictions
The reviews very much read like "it's not great but the film industry is hanging by a thread so I'll be nice". If COVID wasn't a thing I think they'd be out for blood, everyone loves to pile on when someone on a hot streak falters.
I've been saying this will be his The Village moment since the teaser trailer. Hopefully Warner Bros forces him to make Inception Reloaded next.

Re: Tenet predictions
I believe the reviews are praising for it being something new but also being too ambiguous that would need multiple theater views, sometimes it might not be a good thing specially now. It would be difficult to go multiple times to theaters for a movie in this atmosphere.

Re: Tenet predictions
Early domestic PS(for early screenings on Aug 31) is good considering absolute crazy situation around. This is gonna have a long run. I am not anticipating too many big movies opening for several weeks.

Re: Tenet predictions
I think critics are actually harsher than usual. The Sun (UK) for example, saying
"but despite the frayed plot and bad script, this is still a film you need to see. It improves dramatically on second viewing - and I'm already planning my third. Thanks Chris. Viva Le Cinema!"
And give a film a rotten grade on rotten tomatoes website, I don't think any people want to watch a film they label as bad for the second time, let alone the third!
Anyway, this might actually be a good thing for me, consider that all Nolan's films I don't like (Insomnia, the Dark Knight, Dunkirk) are all >90% tomatometer, Memento manage to be the only >90% tomatometer Nolan film that I love.

Re: Tenet predictions
I do not think that or other reviews are harsher than usual. You can be a fan of director or actor to see a movie multiple times. And given that nothing is yet out there this is easily a movie to go see multiple times on big screen, plus a reason to go out. This also does not mean it's a great movie.
