I would go. If I wasn't on the other side of the country.

I am a bit nervous about it too. Mainly I don't feel many will show up and it will be immediately compared to Glenn Beck's rally numbers-wise. It will be interesting to watch though!

I expect as it gets closer, you'll get announcements of special guest stars who will show up and help build a better crowd. Expect popular actors and musicians.
This of course won't stop Fox from downplaying the crowd. "They didn't come for Stewart and politics, they came to see Bruce Springsteen!" or something.
And by going I mean, watching on TV because I'm on the opposite side of the country.

So remember how people were saying that only white people went to Glenn Beck's rally and tea party meetings in general? Watching the Stewart/Colbert rally on TV you see all white faces.
What gives?

This country is still mostly white. The difference from the Beck rally is 95% of those people were probably close to 100% white. You might have a person that was 1/16th Cherokee, or 1/4 Italian from time to time. I did not see many shots with people of any diversity like Asians, Hispanics, or African-Americans. There did not seem to be many Agnostic or Jewish attendees.
At this rally, many people might have looked white if you saw a pan view of a group shot, but a large minority of them might be 50% Hispanic, or 35% Asian, etc. There were far more asians, hipanics, and african-americans. There seemed to be more Agnostics and Jewish people if Father Guido Sarducci's benediction was any indication. Probably not as diverse as the nation as a whole, but much more diverse than Beck's rally from what I saw of both events.

Dude WTF are you insinuating? When have I have ever deleted anything that wasn't a double post? I edit for spelling quite often.
What is your problem with my post? Be specific and don't hide behind acronyms and insinuations.
I didn't do a genetic analysis of both rallies. I just saw a ton of clips on the local news of people from both rallies and knew people that went to the rallies. It was my observation from my perspective, if I sound ridiculous so be it. I am open to the interpretation my analysis is flawed.
I think the rally today was more diverse than Beck's, but not as diverse as the nation as a whole demographically.
I didn't like the way the liberal blogs and media outlets harped on the Beck rally as being overtly racist, because the composition of the crowd did not meet their standards of a mythicial "real" America. I would prefer we don't go down the same path in trying to diminish the rally today.

QFT=Quoted for truth. He agreed with you.
I don't, but more on that tomorrow.
Quote:
Answer: This peculiar QFT acronym expression stands for "Quoted For Truth". It has two particular meanings when used in a discussion forum.
1) QFT is an expression of agreement and support, where the user stands behind you and one of your statements. This commonly occurs in controversial topics where opinions are very heated, and people will choose sides in an argument. If someone "quotes you for truth", they are paying you a compliment, and siding with you in the discussion.
2) QFT can also be used to preserve an original forum post, so that the original author cannot edit after the fact. A user who copy-pastes the original forum content will sometimes put the letters "QFT" at the top of the copy-paste. It is a type of forensic stamp, commonly used during very heated discussions on a controversial topic. The original author can no longer change their original text, because it is now preserved through someone else's post. The original author is prevented from denying what they originally wrote because the QFT public copy can refute any denial.
It read more like the second meaning than the first, IMHO.
Do you really think both rallies were equal in terms of racial diversity? I find that difficult to believe, because Beck's rally's avg. age was probably close to 60 years old and Colbert/Stewart's was probably close to 30 years old.

I thought they were both really white. I don't care about the racial makeup of either, but what bugs me was that the racial makeup of the tea party gatherings was used to prove the deeply racist nature of the movement. Well you can't have your cake and eat it too.
P.S. Here's a fun video from Reason.TV (a libertarian rag):

Are you talking about certain segments of the media and internet, because I stated a similar sentiment.

I think the problem with the Tea Pary gatherings was when commentators tried to portray the Tea Party as the "real America". It was a certain segment just as this rally was. The both have valid concerns over the path this country is taking, but even combined they don't capture the entire country's perspective.
