This movie was funny but too crude. I don't find that stuff funny. I liked the display of true friendship in the film though.

Superbad? They shoulda called this one Superfilthy! It's one out-and-out rude low comedy - - which, if you know my reviews - - I'm all for!!!

But, despite the great comedy scenes and dialogue, this movie's story turns disturbingly gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that! But, yow! Wat's up wit dat?!?!?

Certainly better and more honest than the team's earlier movie this summer (Knocked Up), it fails to scale the sacred mountain peak of the finest low comedy's such as American Wedding, Not Another Teen Comedy, or, of course, Bubble Boy - - but still a very noble effort, and emotional-honesty-wise, probably on par with their masterpiece thus far: 40 Year Old Virgin...

5 out of 5.

Awesome and hysterical. Apatow and Company are on such a great streak right now. This may be the best teen comedy I've ever seen, ranking high with Ferris and the other classics. Unlike Knocked up though, I found the blend of comedy and story to be much better and a perfect balance. The best comedy of the year for me.

And Although there are so many awesome one liners. I don't think I laughed harder than at the physicality of Hader when he smacked the kid in the face with the Night Stick. It was so unexpected and just so "Police brutatlity" I almost pissed my pants, then he just leaves him. Those cops were so rediculously hilarious. Its hard to pick the best character or joke though, and thats what makes a great comedy.

A+

Does anyone know the song Michael Cera sang while he entertained the cokeheads?

I think I preferred the cop's sincere delivery of the line, "I'm sorry I blocked your cock, McLovin'."

Christian: I remember recognizing the song as an oldie, but not I don't remember it. All I remember is that it has a fast chorus, which doesn't help much, heh.

Better hold off for a bit, Mods - - seems to be some severe rating fluctuations...

I don't think the movie turned gay - their friendship was strictly platonic. Plenty of people have seperation issues with close friends when they don't have anyone else. That said, you're not the only one who has that sentiment - there were plenty of groans and even a few walk outs both times I've seen this during the sleeping bag scene!

I'm not in love with Superbad the way most people seem to be.

For me, it was at its funniest when the two leads were together on screen (this becomes alarmingly less frequent as the movie goes on) and given freedom from the narrative to just banter about funny shit (the porn subscription early in the movie, the super tight jeans late in the movie). The entire subplot of the other party with the guys in the room doing coke was a major kink in the flow, and it almost brought the laughs to a screeching halt. They could have feasibly removed this entire section with some plot tweaks, and the movie would have been tighter and funnier.

It's a good movie that has moments of brilliance, but it's not on the same level as Knocked Up or 40 Year Old Virgin.

There are no words for how retarded that is.

BTW, what theater did you see it in MovieDude? I went to the Regal Lloyd Center 10. Huge freakin' auditorium! I was disappointed by the lack of stadium seating, though.

Gay's cool - - it was just a surprising to see it in this particular movie. Actually, I think it's a good sign that general audiences are so accepting of it - - we're maturing as a society with tolerance. Nobody even commented on it in this thread!

But it most certainly wasn't platonic! They didn't show the actual deed, but the lead up and their reactions afterwards made it plenty clear what went down.

Um.

What?

They were friends. There was no implied sex at the end of the movie. Just because it was two guys sleeping next to each other in sleeping bags doesn't mean the filmmakers intended to show the audience they had sex? That's a really weird conclusion to come to...

It's rather true, actually. Even people my age (i.e. upper 20s) are quoting it.

My favorite exchanges:

#1
Becca: "I'm so wet."
Evan: "Yeah, they said you would be in health class."

#2
One of the cops: "We just cockblocked McLovin. We can't do that, we should be guiding his cock!"

If these are the ones your group is quoting, that is one interesting group.

I didn't say those were being quoted specifically, I said those were my favorites.

The first time I saw it at the Lloyd Center 10 at an early screening Thursday night - always check the movie listings in the Willamette Week and to a lesser extent the Portland Mercury to get the hook up. Second time was at the Pioneer Square Friday night, which has some excellent stadium seating. It's not one of my favorite theaters as it's hard to sneak around - Fox Tower is godly - but it's nice.

As to bradley, I can totally see where he would have interpreted that they fucked around, because they were definitely asking what the fuck went down, but I personally believe that they were wondering why they confessed their friend love for each other, not why they went all Brokeback on each other. To each their own on that one I suppose.

They didnt have sex at the night. Jonah's reaction of "what the fuck" in the morning was merely because they had no recollection of the night before. They both commented that the night was a blur. It was during that one moment during the night they free of stereotypes and awkwardness, and then in the morning they were back to normal. I dont see how anyone could imply that they had sex.

Outside of the Fox Tower, which would you say is the best corporate, big-movie-only theater here? I had heard Lloyd Center 10 (which is why I saw Superbad there), but like I said despite the huge auditorium the lack of stadium seating sucked. But which one has the best sound/projectionist?

The Lloyd Center has the biggest theater, but it's definitely not the best. I'd probably give it to the newly opened Bridgeport 18. It's out a little ways into SW, but you can really tell it's a state of the art theater - they have Harry Potter IMAX 3D playing there, and have another Digital Projection screen as well. Plus since they have so many screens they tend to have more offbeat films every now and then, such as Death at a Funeral right now. Oh yeah and check your PM box bro.

Constantly funny, and not dumb, but not smart like I was hoping for. Seth Rogan is much more likable in this than in Knocked Up. The entire cast was good except for Rogan's partner.

I guess Apatow just isn't what I wanted him to be. Sure, his comedy isn't nearly as stupid as the Frat Pack's, but he's no genius like the South Park and Simpsons guys.
