Chances are slim at this point. The film will in all likelihood cross the $250m mark by the end of this upcoming weekend. Even with moderate to big drops, the weekdays will help it.
If it follows Shrek 2's trajectory from now on, it will end up with around $315m. I'm expecting around $310m.

Just to add, my current predictions are:
Spider-Man 3 $330m Shrek 3 $310m Pirates 3 $298-302m
I suspect Disney will make sure that Pirates gets past $300m. I can't think of any reason why theatres would want to keep these films for weeks to come given what films are upcoming. Their theatre and screen counts will take a nosedive week after week.

So this is how this summer is stacking up against other summers thus far:
2007 $909.90
2006 $756.30
2005 $769.00
2004 $797.90
2003 $950.40
2002 $921.40
2001 $600.90
2000 $615.90
Increases/Decreases
2006 $153.60
2005 $140.90
2004 $112.00
2003 -$40.50
2002 -$11.50
2001 $309.00
2000 $294.00
Other Summers vs. Current
2006 -16.88%
2005 -15.49%
2004 -12.31%
2003 4.45%
2002 1.26%
2001 -33.96%
2000 -32.31%
Current Summer's Gains on Previous Summers
2006 16.88%
2005 15.49%
2004 12.31%
2003 -4.45%
2002 -1.26%
2001 33.96%
2000 32.31%
So we're behind 2003 and 2002, and comfortably ahead of the rest. It's quite something that three $100m+ openers could not go against Spider-Man/AOTC. But to be fair, 2003 had 5 May weekends (Finding Nemo opened over May 30-June 1st), so the last two days of May in 2003 were weekends, and very strong weekend days.
The key is 2004, which holds the summer record. This is a nice increase over 2004, whose beginning was actually weak, if you recall.
The film grosses thus far:
1 Spider-Man 3 $310,764,055 46,382,695 2 Shrek the Third $227,906,792 34,015,939 3 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End $173,339,068 25,871,503 4 28 Weeks Later $25,376,762 3,787,576 5 Disturbia $21,427,532 3,198,139 6 Georgia Rule $17,527,705 2,616,075 7 Fracture $14,519,523 2,167,093 8 The Invisible $10,189,283 1,520,789 9 Hot Fuzz $8,404,534 1,254,408 10 Next $8,346,218 1,245,704 11 Delta Farce $7,517,778 1,122,056 12 Waitress $7,409,380 1,105,878 13 Blades of Glory $7,140,964 1,065,816 14 Meet the Robinsons $6,553,940 978,200 15 Lucky You $5,605,738 836,677 16 Bug $4,871,655 727,113 17 Wild Hogs $4,412,707 658,613 18 Vacancy $4,000,935 597,154 19 Are We Done Yet? $3,915,535 584,408 20 The Ex $3,036,664 453,233 21 Away from Her $2,783,499 415,448 22 The Condemned $2,424,261 361,830 23 Black Book $2,136,003 318,806 24 The Namesake $2,031,117 303,152 25 300 $1,862,243 277,947 26 In the Land of Women $1,620,296 241,835 27 Perfect Stranger $1,388,868 207,294 28 Kickin' It Old Skool $1,371,211 204,658 29 The Valet $1,369,405 204,389 30 The Lives of Others $1,088,200 162,418 31 Paris, je t'aime $1,022,333 152,587 32 Deep Sea 3-D (IMAX) $960,007 143,285 33 The Last Mimzy $806,264 120,338 34 TMNT $788,348 117,664 35 Year of the Dog $774,091 115,536 36 Provoked: A True Story $761,740 113,693 37 The Reaping $729,494 108,880 38 Grindhouse $711,765 106,234 39 Shooter $709,902 105,956 40 The Hoax $679,223 101,377 41 Firehouse Dog $653,578 97,549 42 Once $627,123 93,600 43 After the Wedding $592,034 88,363 44 Bridge to Terabithia $578,800 86,388 45 Night at the Museum $523,972 78,205 46 Wild Safari 3D (IMAX) $521,899 77,895 47 Avenue Montaigne $447,180 66,743 48 Magnificent Desolation (IMAX) $409,415 61,107 49 Amazing Grace $403,499 60,224 50 The Wind That Shakes the Barley $403,128 60,168 51 Roving Mars (IMAX) $396,413 59,166 52 Cheeni Kum $383,675 57,265 53 Ta Ra Rum Pum $370,224 55,257 54 The Hills Have Eyes 2 $265,644 39,648 55 Pathfinder: Legend of the Ghost Warrior $251,832 37,587 56 Miss Potter $249,897 37,298 57 Brooklyn Rules $195,436 29,170 58 Jindabyne $194,841 29,081 59 Shootout at Lokhandwala $177,120 26,436 60 Into Great Silence $163,937 24,468 61 Brand Upon the Brain! $160,471 23,951 62 Life in a... It's now way behind the biggies, but still ahead of The Passion, which is going to pass it soon enough, and TTT and Nemo. I don't think Spidey's legs will be good enough to fend of those two, so we could see them both passing it as well.

Hmm, seems like a low number for the sixth highest opening day of the year. At this point last year, the sixth highest opening day was $19m for Scary Movie 4.

Thanks to summer weekdays, it's looking more like Spidey at 335 million, Shrek at 320 million, and Pirates at a respectable 315 million.. not too shabby at all...
It's been an interesting summer so far... June has somewhat been underperforming in comparison to last year... and the first weekend of July is going to be increadibly tough to come close to last year's numbers..
However, this upcooming weekend with Ratatouille, Die Hard and Sicko, those three films alone should combine for over 100 million, so that will be great ( I totally only just noticed now that Live Free or Die hard opens on the Wednesday.... I think that is a mistake on Fox's part!)
Anyhow, at this point I can really see Transformers overperforming and pushing the 300 million barrier... it all depends on how big of a chunk Harry Potter takes out of it...
I also think Harry is going to approach 300 million ..
That would be fantastic if both films made it... that would be 5 300 million films in one summer, a definate record.
I'm still really confused about the Simpsons Movie.. it could gross anywhere from 50 million to 200 million. it's such a wild card...
And, I don't know id anyone noticed, but the 4th Bourne book was just published! I didn't even know there was a 4th. The Bourne Betrayal... Interesting to see if this helps or hinders the box office performance (as many thought it was going to be the final in the film series, though now it is looking like it won't be...)

I think it will be very hard for both Harry Potter and Transformers to make 300. Unless they both open so big that it isn't that difficult.
