The first sentence is supposed to say "My job does bore me, but i am a student so it's not too bad"

Danke! Ich rief bereits einen Freund an und ich hoffe, daß er mir einen Job anbieten kann, in dem er arbeitet. Wie über Sie sind Sie ein Kursteilnehmer oder Sie arbeiten?

I have no clue what the first part of your last sentence means :D

Kursteilnehmer means "course's participant"

Let me try to rephrase it

Hast du ein Glück, du Schuft! ich aufweisen 2 oder 5 mehr die Jahre aus die Lehranstalt abhängig von ich das Dasein ein die Lehrkraft oder der Advokat.

I translated that word for word, so i hope German has the same word order has English.

Also what does Die mean? I'm using it a lot. Does it mean an?

Neo, die is one of the three German variations for "the"

"The" in German comes in three varieties, the masculine "der", the feminine "die", and the neuter "das"

So,

"Der Mann" (The Man)

"Die Frau" (The Woman)

"Das Kind" (The Child)

Thanks.. I would take a german class at Uni, but i hear it's really hard, because they bell curve and a lot of ppl that are already fluent in german are taking it as well.

Can you speak German fluently Box?

Oh, and how was that Exam of yours?

I lived for 5 1/2 years in Austria, so I used to speak it fluently. I can still read it, and I can write a little, but I have to re-learn it. I'm starting off slowly by reading one small chapter per day or two from a book I read in my first year of Gymnasium (which is like high school, the equiv. of Gr.7-13 in Canada).

Oh, and the exam went alright. I was surprised by how tough the essay questions were, but it's a Canadian course, so go figure

How have your first few days of school been?

They've been good. I got a Palm Pilot and a keyboard and i can type a lot faster than i write so it's helping a lot! BUt it's been okay.. nothing too big so far.

Have you been to university in other countries? How does canada compare to Austria? I know that in Portugal, school there is a lot easier than here. I took one course there. BUt that's all.

No, I've only been in Univeristy in Canada. I'd say school was tougher in Austria when compared to Gr.8/9/10 in Canada, but North Americans really catch up big time in college. I'd say you and I are on the same level at this point as all other college students anywhere. U of T isn't so easy anyways :)

Nope! They are too tough when it comes to grading. I find it easy to get a B, but to get an A i have to work my a$$ off like no tomorrow. But that's just me, somethings come easier to me. LIke I do well in History, but i'm not to good when it comes to Criminiology or Sociology classes. Too much original thought :P I'd rather like the memory courses :D

Ya, I agree. I mean, I sometimes get marks that are painfully close to an A, yet off by a few percentage points, almost as if they want to tease you or something. I hate it :x

And on top of that, you are made to feel as if they dont care. Honestly, I've been in classes with 1,200-1,400 students! Everybody is a nobody there! Just ridiculous.

My prof today in my class of 100 students said that in Australia, where she went to Uni, they had tutorials with a max. of 2 students, and they all had a session with the prof. Can you imagine something like that at UofT? :x

You are right and I consider this a very very big flaw in the system. The schools here are much much harder than in the USA and challenge you more as a student (I am speaking of Gymnasiums). The high-schools in the USA are insanely easy. However, you can't say the same of the universities and colleges which are on par with here and often even harder. This creates a huge discrepancy between the colleges and high-schools there, so students struggle in colleges over there. This is why each year the USA tends to accept more and more foreign students (which then again is good for me ;) ).

Oddly enough, Germany is #3 behind the US and the UK for international students. Apparently German universities offer generous packages to foreign students or something.

Btw Lecter, it's probably better for you now even, because intl. applications to US universities are down due to more students not wanting to put up with the screening process. A lot of students from the Middle East, Pakistan, China, etc. have to go through hell to get finally get gov't permission to study in the US. I reaLly can't blame them for choosing other places. I think the UK is probably the most popular alternative, but I'm sure Australia, NZ, and maybe Canada are picking them up as well.

LOL. Never would happen at U of T.

Speaking of asshole professors. I took PHL102- History of Western Philosophy in my first year and my first essay back i got a 45%. It was about Socrates, we had to agree or disagree on his work.

And then he told the class that the majority of the class failed because we went against Socrates. He said soemthing like "Do you think that Socrates would be wrong if we studied him for the last couple of millenia. Do you think that i wasted 10 years at Oxford studyign someone who was wrong!?"

So ever since then i learned that i have to agree with everything.

WTF???

WTF???

He can't do that! You're not allowed to mark an essay in philosophy based on whether the person agrees or not, but based on whether their points are valid or not.

This is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard.

What was the prof's name? That is just disgusting

I know and I am overly happy about that.

Oh and I can tell you why German universities get so many foreign students...because they are free, 90+% of them. Some of them start demanding money now, but even then, it's under $1,000 a year

Really? Wow, that is an awesome deal :D

That's more generous than Canada's system :D

Btw, which universities have the best reputation in Germany? Like, Humboldt or Freiburg?

Both Munich's universities (normal and technical) are by far considered the best.

Heidelberg (where Goethe and Schiller studied) is a somewhat distant third.
