Undoubtedly, but at least I don't give invites for people to sleep with me... anymore.

Come on, now. Sliced bread is quite the creation. Before that, how would we ever get bread in a toaster? There wouldn't even be a toaster. We would be stuck with taking pieces of the bread apart, and eating it like cavemen peoples.

Gmail is overkill. Nobody needs an entire gig of email space.

I almost use it as my mobile file center. I have various songs and other files sent from/to my GMail account so that I can download thm on any PC to which I go.

It's spam filter, so far, is the best of any mail service that I've seen. FAR better than Hotmail's filter, at least.

It allows you to search your emails, so if/when you compile shitloads of email, you don't have to search through 300 emails to find what you're looking for (and trust me, there will be times you have to do it).

Gmail compiles all replies to the same message into one email box, so you can see the entire conversation without filtering through other emails.

The star service allows you to 'bookmark' certain emails.

Different folders can be created for different emails to/from/about different people/things, which brings a new level of organization that I've seen from Yahoo! and Hotmail.

Yeah, Gmail isn't quite "holy shit omfg omfg" type of new technology, but it does bring so new things that I've always thought might be nice (and even some I never thought of) and fixed a lot of the smaller unremarkable problems of other services.

Besides, I really really hate the Hotmail's and Yahoo!'s interface.

I agree. 1 GB of space is not necessary, and I don't even like the idea of my mailbox being cluttered with six month old mail that "doesn't need deletion."

I, though, still have to hand it to Google for at least providing its 'fans' with this. The spam filter is excellent (out of over 300 e-mails received within the past 3 months, not one spam mail has slipped into my inbox), and it's still mind-boggling to think of what Google's actually losing (though, I guess after all this 'going public' business, it's what they're actually gaining) by giving us 1000 MB while its competitors have only ponied up a quarter of that.

Its interface is also simple, clean, and fast. It's also just purdy.

I find the lack of picture ads a big plus, picture ads are HORRID, I hate htem, they are distracting when one is trying to read and the ones with sound..my god.

Just because you a hv ea gig of space doesn;t mean you don;t have to delete email, i delete email all the time.

But I for one love it, I can store all the email form my studetns for an entire semester, inclduign all their attachments and not worry about space. Then once their grades are in and the fuckers are done complaining, it all can go buh bye.

I have a god 24 invites across my 4 gmail accounts.

I almost forgot the ads. Total lack of any ads. Period. It's wonderful; it's Google.

I delete email too, but with the gig of space I have it's much easier for me to keep some of the stupider random emails than more important ones.

Text based ads are wonderful, I actually read them more then picture ads...because I hate picture ads, they are insanely annoying.

And peole need to realize that all email is scanned, that is what spam filtering is. I knwo alot of peopel don; tike the gmail display relevant text ads, but I find it better then 18 ads about cellulite cream that I will never buy.

I love gmail. Overrated? Not even close. Sure you don't need 1000MB, but it doesn't hurt to have it. And soon you will see the big space is actually pretty helpful. Not to mention gmail has a good, clean interface, a search engine for your e-mails, a starring tool to mark important e-mails, a wonderful spam filter, many different folders can be made, and my favourite out of it all: they organize e-mails in conversation windows. The best idea ever. It is incredibly useful and makes it so easy to browse e-mails that you have sent back and forth. Gmail is fast, clean, easy on the eyes, and easy to use. Much better than hotmail, which I save for my MSN, junk, and websites.

Anyways, I have a couple of invites still left over, so if anyone would like one, just let me know. ;)

PEACE, Mike ;)

When you get down to it, it's e-mail. Gmail tries even harder to satisfy the fans for what? It's e-mail. I don't go into a white room to write a letter for no distractions. I don't care what there is, it's just e-mail. Nothing more, nothing less. If there's ads, let there be ads. Doesn't really matter. Thus, it's JUST another e-mail service. And one that tries awfully hard, at that. I have a sympatico private e-mail account. That's plain and easy to use. No fuss, no muss, no overratedness.

PRIVATE is the word there, forgive me if I actually care about what my free email service is like.

I didn't realize diffrences mean nothing.

With the same train of thought one go go, communism, facism, democrcy..all forms of goverment, who cares.

Quite frankly the only thing the one email pprogram has over another is size of mailbox, attachmetn size, spam blcokers, and interface.

Gmail has a better interface then any emaila ccount I have seen thus far, and I have seen alot.

I'm not knocking Gmail entirely, I'm just saying that I would rather just have an e-mail service. It doesn't matter if it's Hotmail, Gmail, or any sort of mail. Graphics (or lack thereof) doesn't mean a whole lot. My main qualm is the hype surrounding Gmail. I have a deep problem with anything overhyped to the point where everyone needs to have it. Which explains why I watch shows like Alias, Scrubs, 24 and Arrested Development, shows that have rarely (if at all) cracked the Top 30 of the highest rated shows weekly. I'm a stickler for things that are hyped up to the point of no return. I just may punch a hole in the wall if I see "Anyone want a Gmail invite?" again.

*Post is all in good spirit... don't get too flustered, my views are usually incorrect, almost always.*

its ifne if you don;t give a rat's ass what your email service is like, but the rest of us do. So while you might consider gmail to be overhyped, those of us who have been bitching about email service and their various problems are happy to ahve an email service then listens to our compliant and concenrs, and follows through with them.

You are basically syaing you are not picky and so gmail overrrated becuase you don't care, well I for oone and sick of shitty email service. During the sester I get 50 emails a day, so it matters alot to me.

Alias, Scrubs and Arrested Development all have tons of hype, by critics, that may in fact be why the masses don't so any interest. Crtics hype alot of things, and some of their their hype is completely misguided. Alias gets mroe press coverage then many higher rated shows, if that is not hype I don;t know what is, seeing as it is not delivering by actually gettign higher ratings.

So far most of th epeopel who ahve tried gmail are happy, that's not hype, that's delivering satisfaction to one's customer base.

Hey Mike, there's a small thing called forgiveness. You might want to look into it someday, rather than just tiptoe around directly talking to me.
