Th lowest grossing number 1 movie in any of those weekends was ET with $2.35 mil.

How can a movie make ONLY 2.35 mil and still be #1?

Well, adjusted, it's around #6m, which is around the same level as some of thel owest grossing ones in the 2000s, like Dickie Roberts.

In the 1980s, especially early part of the decade, films were more long-distance runners, rather than the current sprinters we have now. In other words, they made money over a longer period of time. It's not surprising to see a film made $3m or less and be number one.

I'm pretty sure it was a 2004 weekend, since budgets are getting to be more ridiculous each year.

Last weekend's total was $815.6m

The weekend HP3 opened was around $788m for the top 10 (I'm estimating Raising Helen cost $25m), and that included the massive budgets of Van Jelsing, Troy, and HP3.

The weekend The Village opened, the top 10 were $695m.

The weekend Bourne Supremacy opened, the total was $765m.

These are huge sums; I can't find any weekend prior to 2004 were there were so many $100m+ films playing at the same time.

Last year's weekend 52 (counterpart to this last weekend), the top 10 budgets were $714m.

So ya, it appears last weekend was not only the biggest one, but the first time that the top 10 budgets passed $800m.

Next year, I'm pretty sure a number of weekends will beat that. This time next year, to be exact, will have 2 $150m+ films, Narnia and King Kong, in the top 10, so that's $300m right there.

WOW this thread bombed.

Ok, I admit I'm surprised, especially since most of these charts are not available anywhere on the internet.

But obviously there's a pitiful amount of interest, esp. judging by the low view count.

Doesn't that make you question where those 18,000 view counts for a certain thread came from?

Especially since less than a handful of people participate in it?

Reminds me of when that SM2 Assault Thread mysteriously grew by 2-3,000 view counts within a few hours at night...

But it's so boringggggggggg

There's nothing to talk about.

Anyways, I miss those smaller threads, that concentrate on one specific topic. Sigh, those need to be random though.

I think I finally got why these threads aren't meant for discussion: the're not.

I mean, what the hell is there to say, right?

It's more resource-based.

Problem is, Kj is posting-based, while BOM is more view/lurker based. So tracking threads won't work well here unless you spam the hell out of them with hundreds of news articles anyone could google on their own.

I think a new set of threads is needed. These charts are completely useless if not part of a discussion, and discussion is what is important.

So for the time being, I think it's best to suspend all these kinds of threads (mine, I mean) and think of new thread-creating methods.

Anyone wish to have a discussion on this issue? Any input would be appreciated.

So no more charts until I find a way to make them useful.

So no more charts until I find a way to make them useful.

well I liek to create threades that question moral values but that obviously does not aply in this forum. I think the best way to start discussion is by asking questions plasing a chart or information can get replies but asking one good Q could get you way more and it could be fun and recourseful 8)

Thanks for that suggestion BJ. There's one thing I've been thinking about.

Remember that series of threads I meant to start "A Series of Fortunate Threads"?

I still think it's a good idea. It'll require essay-type posts (well, initial post at least), and I could feasibly have charts supporting that.

yeah I relpied in two or three you made  they were great 8) the essay tipe threads you made got 20 replies max at BOM so they would get around 30-40 here. "The Series of Fortunate" threads is a great idea, I dont think that they will be massive threads but i think they will be highly recourseful and fun to post in.

Size doesn't matter. I prefer smaller threads with insightful discussion over the tired old scheme of having one thread repeatedly be about the same thing. I'm considering sacking that WOTW thread as well. I really am growing sick of artilce posting, it's the most useless thing imaginable. If we go by the idea of forums being places for discussion, none of that stuff should be a centre point.

The Sm2 Predictions one was fun because there actually was participation (150-200 people actively participated in at least a few predictions), but I'm afraid its success has spawned too many duplicates that have made me grow sick of prediction threads entirely (nm that I thought I could re-invigorate it with SW3...).

I'd actually prefer if others would start the threads, more variety that way.

NOTE: One huge exception: The Incredibles. Oh, it was (and is) a joy to track it, AND, I have not posted asingle useless article in it. It's my best thread ever, bar none. TPOTC Thread was great to, in that it grew spontaneously.

When I make a thread I want it to apeal to a wide audience so I can get the maximum amount of replies and I can be able to understand what everyone's view on something is. Thats how i make my threads. I think that the prediction thread still works for its purpose (predicting) I dont have much of a problem with anything in the forum. Your right about the articles being useless I never read them any way, they shoule be in the movies thread not the box office bash wethers its a WWA thread or not, articles just dont belong in the bash forum. I understand that large threads like the WWA and The prediction thread were desined to organize and keep in tact the forum. Its working. 8) Another problem I noticed is the lack of posting theres usualy a lot of lurking even I do it a lot. So to fix this i think the key thing to fix first is getting articles out of the Bash and asking smart Qs. After that we can star focusing on other ways to get interesting threads that are able to be posted in.

What do you think :?:

I agree with your view on the Incredibles thread you made at BOM its awesome but I am having trouble with taking the time to post at BOM because its getting to the point where posting at BOM seems useless and I feel like my posts are going unread.

So whats next :?:

BTW what do you think of my Sin City prediction thread :?: and why have you not posted a prediction in there yet :x :?:
