Oh, you're educated on Bond films and I'm mistaken? If I start asking you questions about the films, could you answer them? Easy questions that anybody who wasn't ignorant above the films would know. Just give the word, and we'll find out how wrong I am, and that's it's just a difference of opinion, because you know the films well.

*lol* Funny things i read here...

I don't pretend to know Bond inside out, i don't, but that doesn't disqualify my opinion about it. I don't need to watch every Bond 10 times to know that i'm not particularly impressed with the franchise, or in other words, even if you'd lend me your super geeky Bond collection and i'd watch the whole lot 10 times in a row to the point where i would be able to recite every Bond one-liner, it still wouldn't change my gripes i'm having about it.

Wow, if the reviews for this and Happy Feet don't become significantly worse, this is looking to be a TERRIFIC weekend at the movies, for us box office fans and for people who want to see a blockbuster reallly deliver.

Damn you! That statement actually just lowered my anticpation for this.

How about it's doing significantly better then Batman Begins? Seriously though, how many live action blockbusters get RT scores over 90%? The Departed, Spider-Man 2, I wonder what else there's been...

That's pretty flippin' impressive. I mean... that's pretty DAMN impressive. Some Oscar movies don't get higher than this.

I wonder if it has a 'classic' JB opening moment... The opening shot having nothing to do with the movie... Like a crab crawling along...

Ouch.. Damn that stung with the BATMAN BEGINS remark.. Actually I was listening to the radio this morning and theere were some radio personalities that had seen a screening for this and they said they didn't buy Craig as BOND because of the Blond hair, but that this movie would sell cause women think he's sexy.. I really hope this movie sells on it's own merit as a good story and NOT on this guy appealing to women to sell it.. :-k

Jeffrey Wells raved:

Due in no small part to Daniel Craig's totally-unto-itself, ace-level performance, Royale is certainly the best James Bond film in over 40 years and is close to being the best Bond ever. I still feel on some level that Dr. No and From Russia With Love have an old-hat specialness because the early '60s era in which they were made isn't that far removed from the early '50s zeitgeist that informed the early 007 novels from Ian Fleming, and because they're lean and unencumbered by the high-tech, bigger-is-better stuff that began to envelope the films in the mid '60s.

:2thumbsup:

The best Bond film in over 40 years? Not only is that some high praise, that just impossibly raised my anticipation even higher.

The two reviews I'm waiting for are James Berardinelli (Who tore a new one into Die Another Day) and Roger Ebert, if he does get around to doing this - especially Ebert. Although he has liked the last five Bond films (Especially LTK and TWINE) he seemed to kind of take pity on them. Also in his review of DAD I believe he said that he finally got used to seeing Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. Since he was used to him, I wonder what he'll think of Craig.

**

I don't believe that review is on Rotten Tomatoes yet, but if it is I just missed it. One new review was added and it was another positive one. That makes 20/21 positive and a 95% rating. The unoffical rating is at 89%. One review I am ignoring off of that list is the one by About.com's Jurgen Fauth. I respect his opinion, but a 90 minute James Bond film about the beginning of Bond? No director could've pulled that off, so that's an unfair criticism, not to mention that all the Bond films have been anywhere from 110 to 140 minutes long.

I'm still trying not to get too excited over the rating since it is afterall a Bond film, but if it's in the '80s by Thursday night, I'll be estatic.

When the only bad review calls it "the perfect Bond film" apart from the length, that's pretty spectacular. I can't wait!

When I last checked this afternoon, the rating was down to a 92% at Rotten Tomatoes. It's back up to a 93%.

29 reviews counted

Fresh: 27
Rotten: 2

Edit: Another review was added. It's positive.

Double edit: Should I be shocked that Scott Holleran didn't like it? That has to be another good sign for the film.

I honestly never get this. Roger Moore had blond hair, call it brown all you want, but in Live and Let die and a few others his hair was dirty blond. Its the biggest bullshit I've ever heard. Until he started getting darker jobs to make it look browner

Will see if it's BS in 2 weeks when this movie drops like a rock.. I'm sure it will do well this weekend if for anything the curiousity factor of Craig as the title character now and whther the general moviegoer will buy this...

Rotten Tomatoes:
94% 30 positive, 2 negative Average rating: 7.9/10
Cream of the Crop: 90%, average rating: 7.5/10
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/casino_royale/?show=all

Metacritic:
82 - 12 reviews
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/casinoroyale

Wooow, I thought that the early reviews might be flukes but this really IS heading for an amazing score. And with it's reviews VERY similar to Minority Report (94% to 92%) and Happy Feet's VERY similar to Lilo and Stitch's (85% vs. 84%), this weekend is starting to look more and more like that exciting weekend in June.

I hate to nit pick the bad reviews, but the About.com one is a joke...

"We've adored the French ingenue since her debut in Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers, and truth be told, she was the real reason we attended yesterday's screening at New York's Ziegfeld theater."

So at the end of the review they recommend... The Dreamers... and believe me, as someone who's actually seen it, don't.
