Holy cow, the day of the upset. Blake, Hingis, Nalbandian, Kuznetsova, bloodbath!

Federer just got a straight trip to the finals that he didn't even need. There is noone in the top half now, the highest seed apart from him is #7 Ancic. Maybe it's good that he won't be challenged though, maybe in the finals he'll be rusty. But I doubt it.

Roddick, Agassi, Hewitt, Ljubicic, and Nadal, are all in the bottom section. Roddick and Hewitt would meet in one quarter in a big ass match, whoever wins between Agassi and Nadal would go on to Ljubicic. Agassi might make the semifinals! I think it'll be Federer vs Roddick again though, sadly.

If if was Hewitt, Agassi, or Nadal especially who made it to the finals, Roger wouldn't have it in the bag like against Andy. Though having Nadal there might be a blessing in disguise, because if he kills him in the finals here, it'll give him confidence when they meet in the French next year that he can win against Nadal.

...

As for the women, the competition is down to those select few players as usual, but I think it'll still be fun to watch. Mauresmo is a choke artist, so Venus should be able to beat her in the quarters pretty easily IMO. Sharapova only has Dementieva who is another choker in her quarter, but Maria hasn't been that great in big matches at majors since her win, and Dementieva has made the semis and finals plenty before. I'm actually gonna say Elena takes that one, in a tight match. Venus is making the finals regardless though.

In the other half Henin-Hardienne and Clijsters have quarters all to themselves, there's a chance one loses to an unknown but I doubt it. The semifinal match between them should be big, but I expect Henin to win as she does basically every single time when the two meet. The finals if it's Venus vs Henin should be great, my pick is still Henin to finish off her grand slam.

I'd argue that Dementieva isnt really a choke artist. Her serve is just terrible, and it's amazing to see how far she gets in so many tournaments with possibly the worst serve on the tour. If only it were better, she'd have won a major already I bet.

I dont think Dementieva's game suits grass all that well, especially with that serve. If she's going to win a major it will the U.S. Open, and with the women's field the way it is, I wouldn't count her out at Flushing Meadows this year.

He lose to Nadal already? I would have thought it would be a prime-time match. (primetime for England)

Well, I hate Nadal now.

I hope Federer crushes him in the finals. That I would like to see. But he's probably not going to get to the finals.

Vamos!

Well, at least this will stop the Agassi montages reflecting on his career at Wimbledon every half hour. I hope.

Considering how spotty Venus has played for like the lat 5 years I am not surprised.

Roddick played well, Murray played fantastically well, a really entertaining match. It's been a great day of entertainment for me, seeing Agassi lose was a little emotional after following him for over 15 years, the game will be a little less exciting without him.

Wonderful day for british tennis though, after the world cup disappointment. Not that much of a surprise really after murray beat roddick in San Jose in straight sets earlier in the year, but to do it at wimbledon is great. I'm happy :)

Gentlemen's Singles Fourth Round

Roger Federer SUI (1) v. Tomas Berdych CZE (13)
Novak Djokovic SCG v. Mario Ancic CRO (7)
Fernando Verdasco ESP (28) v. Radek Stepanek CZE (14)
Jonas Bjorkman SWE v. Max Mirnyi BLR
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lleyton Hewitt AUS (6) v. David Ferrer ESP (23)
Marcos Baghdatis CYP (18) v. Andy Murray GBR
Dmitry Tursunov RUS (27) v. Jarkko Nieminen FIN (22)
Irakli Labadze GEO v. Rafael Nadal ESP (2)

I think we may be headed for a Federer v. Hewitt final and that would be hilarious. Would Hewitt be able to win a game of Federer? Ridiculous as it sounds it might just be a valid question. He suffered two bagels at the 05 US Open final, and he's much better on hard court than grass.

HEwitt is probably the only playre ont he tour whom I genuienly hate because of stuff he's done, so I loved his bagels in '05 and I owuld throughly enjoy Federer handing him somemore here at Wimbledon.

*waves to Roddick* How is Roddick still ranked so high, everytime I watch a major he exits rather early.

Hahaha, Roddick sucks. Andy Murray is the new British hero I guess, which means the Brit fans will now have plenty of fun getting disappointed in the quarters and semis each year.

Federer is basically in breeze land, he barely even has to try. Nadal would do himself a favour by losing before the finals, just so he can still hold the upper hand against Federer coming into next year at the French.

Well, he had finalist points to defend at Wimbledon and he'll be getting 3rd round points, so I think it was said that his rank will drop to #11.

Horrible day for US tennis. Venus beats herself for the umpteenth time of late. Agassi was simply overpowered. Roddick underachieved majorly.

It looks like Henin-Hardenne has another major in her grasp.

Well, before this year Roddick has always won several tournaments. He'll be way down next season, though, as he has yet to win a tournament this year. (he's won like 15 or so the last 3 years before)

That'll just mean that he has nowhere to go but up next year. No points to defend.

I don't know what Roddick has left to defend this year. I think he has a win in Indianapolis and maybe a 3rd round in Canada, but that's nothing. He's got nothing to defend at the US Open, so there's a chance he can rebound quickly. Not that I think he will, just that there's a chance.

I don't see how Federer will lose a set. The gap between him and the next best player on grass is as wide as I've ever seen in sports.

About bloody time, I mean Roddick has not been a factor at a major in awhile, I have not felt once since he dumped Gilbert as a coach that he would actually win a major.
