Post Screen Counts/Crowd Reports for Dec 8-12
According to fandango.com, Edwards Atlantic Palace 10 (w/o stadium seating) has following movies:

Blade: Trinity - 13 shows in 2-3 screens
CWTK - 10 in 2 (will be 5 in 1 on Friday, losing 1 screen to Incredibles)
Grudge - 2 in 1 (night only)
Incredibles - 9 in 2 (will be 13 in 2-3 on Friday, getting 1 screen from CTWK)
Spongebob Squarepants - 13 in 2-3 (loses 1 screen at night to Grudge)

Seed of Chucky and Saw will be gone in 2 days.

No info for Edwards Renaissance 14 on Friday yet but probably will add Ocean's 12 and drop After the Sunset, BJ2 and/or Ray.

Sounds good. Maybe it will have more on Friday. I'm hoping for atleast a $8,000-$9,000 PTA for this one, since Blade II had a $12,500 PTA. It would have been able to get $12,500 PTA if it weren't for Ocean's Twelve.

One of my local theaters will be having 5 showings a day (weekdays) for Birth this week. Rather odd.

Edwards Renaissance 14 DIDN'T drop movies, but took few of their screens to Ocean's 12:

Ocean's 12 - 13 shows in 3 screens
After the Sunset - 5 in 1
Alexander - 7 in 2
BJ:EOR - 5 in 2
closer - 10 in 2
Finding Neverland - 5 in 1
National Treasure - 8 in 2
Polar Express - 5 in 1
Ray - 4 in 1

Final comment: Blade: Trinity has midnight screenings tonight.

FYI, Blade II had 3 screens as well. I think three is the perfect number for this (Blade did not play here, because the theater did not open yet).

Blade Trinity at midnight. About 60-70 people there, pretty good. About the same size midnight crowd as The Day After Tomorrow, Van Helsing, and The Village. They've never done midnight screenings for movies that opened under $50M so who know where Blade is headed. Anways, after about 13-14 commercials (NOT EXAGGERATING) the trailers were ok. I saw some new ones (xXx2, Amityville Horror, and The New World [BOMB]) and White Noise for the billioneth time. Sadly no Batman Begins. The movie was a let down, would've been crap had Van Wilder not saved it. The movie didn't really have any point or purpose even the big conclusion was weak. People were talking about how funny Van Wilder was, I didn't hear anything else.

Blade Trinity

12:15 pm

23 people in a 255 seater (Pretty good for the first show of the day)

Trailers:

Darkness, looks creepy
Wedding Crashers, looks funny
The Amityville Horror
The new Terrence Malick movie, looks good

The opening line is funny. Somewhat slow paced at times. This movie should have had a very good main villain. Instead the dracula/bad dude is terrible. Ryan Reynolds is funny and is the most interesting character in the movie. Even the secondary villains, more often than not, are trying to be funny than scary. Time for this franchise to close up shop. If not a home run, at least a single.

Grade: C+

Quick Blade report.

So Far, we are doing very well, with our first show (1:00) attracted 130 patrons, just about equal with Princess Diaries 2 and White Chicks. Expect a 6 million opening day if these right true.

Also, we do have a Spanglish sneak as well. I will be the opener on Friday, so I will give you the early reports.

I thought i throw this in here.....

AUSTRALIA: Ocean's 12 - Thursday

Opening day for O12 here in Australia and this is easily the busiest day since Spiderman 2.....eclipsing Bridget Jones 2.

It's currently 8:30pm and all sessions for O12 are 90% Full or higher in all Village Cinemas in Melbourne.....the 9:15 and 9:30 sessions are also filling up fast.......

Bridget Jones had about 80%+ at about this time.....and if all things goes well during the week, it should have no problems grossing more than AUD$6m....

One only needs to look at how the original opened to see how potent Oceans can be.....it debut with AUD$5,413,522 which counts as the #30 All-Time......matching Bridget Jones 2's $5,588,705.

Addin the must-see factor and a higher screen count......and what you have is a stronger opening surely. I wouldn't be too surprised if O12 exceeds Spiderman's 2 $7,132,602.

Sequels do quite well in Australia on openings

X-Men 2 - $6,026,988 vs. X-Men 1 - $3,609,332
Mission Impossible 2 - $6,393,912 vs. $3,892,745
Charlie's Angels 2 - $5,838,921 vs. Charlie's Angels 1 - $4,048,118
2 Fast 2 Furious $5,727,429 vs. Fast & The Furious - $3,300,893
Austin Powers 2 $5,765,239 vs. Austin Powers 1 - $1,083,336
Bridget Jones 2 - $5,588,705 vs. Bridget Jones 1 - $3,926,141
Mummy Returns - $5,438,989 vs. The Mummy - $3,814,054
The Bourne Supremacy - $4,880,391 vs. The Bourne Identity - $2,774,959

Isn't quite freaky that all of the sequels seem to open around $5-6m.... :P

The average increase is roughly 40-45%......applying that to O12......we could be looking at an $8m+ opening

I'll stay conservative and project a $7m opening :P

My local theater, which has 10 screens, is giving the blockbuster treatment to Ocean's Twelve this weekend with 2 screens. Of course, technically it is kind of a blockbuster, but I'm surprised my theater did that.

By the way, I'm seeing Blade: Trinity tonight. Report when I return.

Yeah, I know. If it weren't for school, I would have been at the midnight show on Tuesday night.
