I guess I'll have to go more into detail about my ethnicity then. I am white. 1/8 Dutch, 7/8 French. I wished I had some indian in me though. If I did I could have gotten free university but we looked as far back as the 1600's and couldn't find shit.

Ethnicity..ha..that´s a funny question!! The truth of the matter is, that most people are mixed somewhere in their bloodline whether they lay claim to it or not! In essence, ethnicity is obsolete though seeming valid for aesthetic appearances to some! I tire of these sort of questions..no offence intented.
I really don´t know what the big hoopla about one´s racial background! Statistics, research, whatever...it is so not important to my life!

1/2 Kodiak Bear, 1/4 Koala Bear (even though its not a bear), and 1/4 Circus animal.
Is that right?

It is a big deal because by and large when we see someone we categorize them by race.
There is a comon study where you sit in a classroom and your teacher has two men come in and interrup the class, one is white and one is black. the teacher willask the class to describe the two men, for the white male race is rarley ever mnetioned for the black man it is generally the first thing students mention.

It's a big deal because people are raised to believe that it is, whether by their families or their peers/environment! Very few actually have the courage or the will to step outside the paradigm and exercise the opposite to what they were learned. It still doesn't make it right! But, such is the world we live in and reality rears up to slap us in the face on many an occasion! I choose not to live my life like that, though I know I will have many who oppose me and my thoughts on this matter!

I dunno if I agree exactly. I like that people are different. I would hate if everyone just acted white washed. People have different cultures and different histories and that part of the package that makes someone unique. Ethnicity is weird because of the associations it has that aren't necessarily true. Believe it or not folks...Clarence Thomas is african american.
On the other hand, I would hate if a could came home and couldn't had no understanding of if they're friends are other religions, socio-economic clases and sexes. That would mean everyone acted the same. I think one needs to be respected and loved for their differences and not necessarily because of ignoring their differecnes and acting the same.

I'm not saying that our own uniqueness as individuals, cultures, sexes, religions, etc. be overlooked for those are the very essences that make most of us so singular. Nay, my quam is about people just highlighting ethnicity and such to generalize or stereotype groups! For instance, on a message board such as this...is it truly necessary to ask everyone what their ethnic background is? Most of us would speak to each other regardless! That is my point!

certianly the desire to categoriize by race is learned, but as long as it is tuaght culturally what race/ethnicity a person is will matter.

Yes, tis true, but there are also those who choose not to be confined by those learnings!

Of course, I certainyl don;t plan tot each any children I might have to give nto racial sterotypes, being black I wil have to teach them how to deal with people who aoply racial sterotypes...to prepare them for the inevitable racism they will expereince, as my family did for me.
Now where is my picture

I'm a proud descendant of Noah.
Ya gotta love the Alexandrian idea of the whole world screwing each other until we're all the same color.
Universal peace assured.

Are you of aboriginal descent? Or like... you know. Spanish? Portuguese?
And what would an Armenian be? The orginal Caucasian?
Please excuse my ignorance, but I thought the Armenians had been absorbed by the Turks back in the early c20.. Or am I thinking of some other ethnic group?

He wasn't that far off in that aspect, but his ideals on that matter were ferverantly opposed! The mating of scholars and civilized folk with that of barbarians and lesser peoples. Perish the thought of their own ignorance!

Well, M... there does seem to be some truth to that "genetic trait" thing. Surely anthropologists understand it, but I sure don't. Are men of various "races" attracted to busty blonde women simply because they're "unique"... or are we motivated by something more... reptilian?
