 Beatles must have been really high that day ... So i can just imagine them sitting around, smoking a joint when Ringo decides to say
"I am the eggman"
And then harrison says
"THEY are the eggman"
Lennon stands up and proclaims
"I am the walrus"
paul, whos completely out of it can only mutter
"goo goo g’joob."
They all laugh for a bit before realizing they could market it.
discuss .. i'm just really bored.

The culture had changed under them and they had to seem relevant still so they put on a big display of seeming as drugged out as they could.

That is one of my favorite Beatles songs ever, and I am a huge Beatles fan.
John wrote it, and never denied it was drug influenced. It's also influenced by Alice in Wonderland ("The Walrus and the Carpenter") and James Joyce's "Ulysses" in which a character says "Goo goo g'joob."

I saw a PBS show where they said "I am A Walrus" was made by taking "out-cuttings", literally off the studio floor, after a day's recording... Then they pasted them back together randomly, experimenting..........
At the time "The Beatles" were not at all considered either a "rock" nor a "rock and roll" band... They were The Beatles.. In their own category... My guess for best rock and roll rock band, Led Zepplin.... Influenced the music, highest energy... But The Stones are way up there also...

Of course they were. Everyone knows that "Magical Mystery Tour" was their drugged-out album. As if there was only one? Try Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album, Yellow Submarine.... all influenced in some part by eeevil evil drugs.
The Beatles are amazing. Quite possibly the most influential group of all time, and my third favorite ever after Zeppelin and Radiohead.
