The Da Vinci Code is taking the weekend before Memorial Day, the weekend that was occupied by Shrek 2, Matrix Reloaded, and Attack of the Clones the last 3 years.

Memoirs of a Geisha is definitely aiming for an Oscar run.

I think it's a good move, although I'd rather it to move up instead of into the competitive December. Thanksgiving isn't the best week for it to open.

Yeah, it seems to be trying to copy the release strategy of Blade: Trinity. That might mean that Sony believes that Blade: Trinity will become a success. Perhaps good tracking numbers? :)

Agreed. I think that would have probably hurt it. If Ocean's Twelve or Blade: Trinity prove to be big hits on the second weekend of December, then that might actually be a very good move for Underworld 2.

I hope so. :)

I really want it to succeed, and if it weren't for Ocean's Twelve, it could have made over $50 for the 5-day. But, we'll see.

I think it will top 50m for the 5 day. But it should get over half its gross over the long weekend.

Memoirs of a Geisha has OSCAR written all over it. I mean we are more than a year away from it, yet I think most people here agree that it'll be one of next year's biggest awards frontrunners.

I sense the "Analyze That" and "Ten Whole Yards" effect for Miss Congeniality 2...

I just realized that Underworld 2 will now be going against The Chronicles of Narnia. That's not a very good idea.

Well, the counter-programming might work.

I wonder if Underworld 2 is trying to emulate another certain movie's move, that opens next week...

Wait... I didn't even know there was an Underworld 2!

Post Re: New Release Dates
this seems like as good a place as any to post this....

Kinsey 190 - any idea how this will be expanding? it's been out nearly a month (l believe) and still only in 190 theaters...
Machinist, The 60 - same as above...

these ones are just opened, or not open yet...but anyone know when they will open wider than very limited?

House of Flying Daggers 15
Bad Education
Million Dollar Baby
Inside, The
Hotel Rwanda
Woodsman, The

better yet, is there a place l can find this stuff? :?

Wow Libs, this is anticipated for you too? This is my most anticipated drama of next year.

11.18 could only mean one thing... this movie is potentially really good and they want to push it for Oscar consideration.

Underworld 2 is opening the same weekend as Blade: Trinity. Hmm...maybe Sony/ScreenGems believe Blade: Trinity will do good.
