In the ads I see Watts tossed around by events and caught by Kong in a way that would break her neck and back. Too obviously CGI.

Oh man. I suppose a new question is...
Can King Kong win?

I secong Lecter's thoughts. It's about a 10-ton ape who fights dinosaurs. And it's also a romance between a human female and a 10-ton ape. A movie like this just doesn't need B.O., it needs a SHITLOAD of B.O. See: Exorcist, Jaws, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Arc, E.T., all three LOTR films. All entered the Top 10 when they were released (Some hit the top), something Kong is going to be verey, very, very lucky to do.
Case Closed.

Supplanted by the one where Bana is in Kong's stomach. If you want to see it, refer to loyal's post, just above yours.

A couple more, more action oriented TV spots:
http://www.kingkong.com/media/kk_spot_king_700k.mov
http://www.kingkong.com/media/kk_spot_warrior_700k.mov
Every year there's a couple movies who have teasers that dissapoint, trailers that aren't especially great for the material, but then the TV spots come and... HOLY SHIT. King Kong is definitely one of those.

With Watts being seriously talked about in the Lead Actress category (pending Munich's supporting cast), Kong could very well lead the pack in nominations.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the amount of Titanic comparisons by critics.

I'm truly amazed at how willing they are to blow many of the key money shots and major lines of dialogue in the ads. The above ads are the type you'd normally expect to be released 2 or 3 weeks into a movie's run, not before it opens.

I don't think KK should win Best Picture. I'm sure it'll be very good entertainment, but that's the problem... it's entertainment. Prizes like Best Picture should be given to really great films that challenge viewers, that shakes ideas.
Then again, what the fuck does an Academy Award mean nowadays?

Movies represent aspects of both entertainment and art. Regardless of King Kong's chances, there is no reason why a film can't be both or that they shouldn't celebrate pure entertainment from time to time.
After all, many of those indies are funded on the back of those blockbusters.

access hollywood kong special thing...
i'd say it gets nommed without doubt...and i'm gonna go ahead and agree with whoever is calling it a win, now too.
it just looks far too good, and far too amazing and far too brilliant to be passed up.

The thing about Kong is... at this point... what else is there to nominate?
The Producers is dying... there are signs that The New World could turn out not as great as the early reviews... Memoirs, Jarhead is dead... Munich may be dying...
Sure we have Walk the Line and Brokeback and a few misc. minor competitors.

Assuming Munich really does slip up and a nod is all it'll get...
The race will be very interesting. Mountain v King Kong with Good Night as the underdog!

I actually miss cuddly Jackson. Though if by slimming down insures us 30 years of his current level of filmmaking, I'm sold.

Them's some amazing clips. I love the shot of Watts spinning in Kong's hand in both, and the shot in the first with the bi-plane whizzing past Naomi on the ESB.
Can't say I agree with the choice of music though... Gives it a bit of an annoying contemporary feel that clashes with the imagery.
I agree that Kong's now pretty much a lock for nomination. Given the amount of Oscar bait films floundering left and right, along with the apparent high quality of Kong, it's practically a given.
