The Movie:
Now I know that there has been quite a few negative reviews, but I think in the end the only opinion that matters is your own. Yet I still went into the movie with very high expectations. And the film met each and every one of them. The movie was fantastic. From the opening credits in Greek (which were very tastefully done, I might add) to the Battle of Gaugamela, I was hooked the whole way. The acting is superb. I think Colin really suprised me as Alexander. His performance was outstanding. Angelina and Val shine in their supporting roles as well. Vangelis's score was exceptional, and the same can be said of the cinematography, costume design, and special f/x.

Some people might not like the film because of the bisexuality (there's no sex between males, but it's shown that they have love for each other), but that's what Alexander was, and if that offends you, then don't see it. But if you can look past that, then there is a lot to be had here.

My Rating: A+

according to movietickets.com, there were three sellouts of CWTK in theaters 5-10 mi from zip code 10012. As for Alexander, at least three sellouts from a theater in Santa Monica, CA and another sellout from a theater within 15 mi. from 90042.

I saw Alexander on Monday night. Usually at these screenings, when too many people show up, they simply turn the excess crowd away. But this time, there were so many extras present (around 1000 people showed up for a film showing in a 400-seater), that they opened up a second screen.

As for the film...

Meh. It's disjointed to all hell, and though Farrell gives an admirable performance, Stone never figures out a story to tell. The homosexual elements aren't uncomfortable in the sense of what they are, but Hephaistion is portrayed to be a "girly man" (thank you, Governor Schwarzenneger!), with more eye-liner than Cleopatra. Alexander is thrust from the death of his father (which isn't shown until 90 minutes after the fact) to conquering all of Persia in a matter of minutes.

By the end, we simply don't care.

Rating: C-

Forget what I said about sellouts of Alexander. It's just that I checked online tickets whether available or not. For CWTK, four sellouts in theaters within 15 mi from 10012 and three sellouts in two theaters within 15 mi from 90042.

I'll be seeing Alexander tomorrow, hopefully.

Here is a brief report from my theater.

Alexander is by far the winning so far. During the Matinee shows, it has an average of about 85 people per show (with a 4:00 show having 125 people). Kranks is doing OK with about 25 people per show, but the Incredibles and National Treasure is doing 30 per show. Finding Neverland is doing 25 people per show (not as big a hit as we were anticapating.

BTW, last year, Haunted Mansion did about 45 per show during matinee. Bad Santa did about 30 and Timeline and Missing did about 25.

Also, I am the opener on Friday, so I'll keep you posted on that day.

Is it safe to assume that maybe Alexander has more people per show because there are less showings than the other movies? That is, you can get two showings of Kranks per one of Alexander so it would still be doing okay but spaced out more. I think the real test is going to be Thursday, Friday and the weekend and whether Alexander can keep that business going

This is probably due to alexander's older audience, as a lot of retired people are available during the day to see the film...
Even so, this is still encouraging for the film.
I think the huge promotional push is going to help it in spite of the reviews.
The whole cast has been all over talk shows, and the entire cast and director did an hour on The View today...

Bastards! I went to the theater tonight, hoping to watch Alexander. Sold out. Then, I though, "Oh what the heck, I'll watch Kranks" since I had to take a youngin' with me. Sold out. I was fortunate enough to watch Spongebob again! Woo hoo! Bastards. Anyways, I'm not going to write a full crowd report thing, just that it was 50% full in a 500 seater. All Alexander and Kranks shows after 5pm were sold out, and both were playing on 2 screens. Not bad. National Treasure had a few sold out shows through the day, Polar had two, and Spongebob and Incredibles each had one. Seems to be a good Thanksgiving.

I am finally going to be seeing The Spongebob Squarepants Movie tomorrow afternoon. I can't wait!

National Treasure at 7:10 was sold out on about a 450 seater. The 6:45 show was sold out too. I won't be surprised if this get's a $28M+ weekend. The crowd applauded at the end.
Trailers: Lemony Snicket (for the millioneth time), The Pacifier (crowd loved this), and a few more I can't remember. Movie was great, go see it.

Went to see The Polar Express at 4:30, sold out. Instead saw The Incredibles a second time. About 90% full in a 300-seater.

I love the film, but I can't say that a second viewing of it really helped it for me. I'd still peg it at an A-, though.

I saw a 1:30 showing of National Treasure today. It wasn't a big crowd at all, but I wasn't really surprised by that because the theater I saw this in, is located inside of a mall, and since the mall was closed, it wasn't going to be crowded.

When I walked up, no one was at the concession stands, so based on that I would say all 16 theaters were pretty empty.

I would say there were about 15 people in a 300 seat theater. I don't really remember the trailers, except for The Pacifier, but the small audience didn't really seem to react to it. The same can be said for the movie, but I didn't hear any complaining on the way out.

As for myself, I really enjoyed the film.

On the way out, I was going to sneak into the 4pm showing of Alexander (Since the theaters are basically 10 feet apart from one another), but I decided not to. However, I did peak in, and right before 4, there was only one person in the theater.

Hell, I made it to the part where you said this movie has had quite a few negative reviews lately and that it's your own opinion that matters the most and stopped reading and thought: TRANSLATED = This film truly sucks donkey balls and you want your hard earned $$$ back for the time you wasted, right?? Gotcha.. 8) :wink:
