I agree with Krem's post pretty much. And I'd add not to worry about Tim's nostalgia. Tim is a nice guy but that kind of early BOM nostalgia is something I was glad to get away from when we moved here. I enjoyed seeing a new "generation" of forumers take charge, dolce, mrx, xiayun and such.
As to Ripper, I understand your time constraints but your voice was pretty valuable here, both with your wit and your take on things, it added a lot.

Might not be best to ask Maverikk. His story's not likely to be the most reliable. Try reading this thread. I believe this is what caused Tony to get up and go, so to speak, though I truly don't know the whole story behind his departure.

Your reasons for not posting as much are completly valid, and I understand them. My problem comes with the sly comments you throw about here and there. Glad I don't post as much anymore. The Discussion has really gone downhill! You never do anything to better the situation, which is totally fine, yet you are content to throw your jabs at the forum. I don't understand. If you don't like the way things are, try and change them, but why just complain when it serves no purpose.
I've been sitting here thinking how best to respond, but I realize their really isn't much I have to say. I think I am clearer on your point of view now, and you needed worry about me throwing jabs at the forum in the future.

Mike and Torrino.
My problem is not with people complaining. God knows I could care less about that.
My problem is people bitching without any intention or care for fixing the problem. They complain just to complain, regardless of the outcome. It is just as bad when people complain in immature ways, and throw jabs in at others along with the complaints.
I really don't care anymore.
I have no problem with Mike voicing his concerns over the smilies, I have a problem with the way he did it.

I would like to apologise too. All the sheep references. I know I took it too far. I am sorry.
Humour aside. I think it is healthy that we are discussing these concerns, so let's not turn it into a maylay. We can remain civil and still bringforth our points. Agreed?

No I say we have a fight to the death between Eagle all his friends vs. all the people that like the old smilies.

Krem wrote: I usually don't comment in threads like these, cause they make me itchy, but COME ON PEOPLE! What's with all the whining? Ok, so the smilies aren't the same and many don't like them. I know I don't. Big friggin' deal. I posted a website where you can easily get the a lot more smilies from and Eagle said many times that if you give him an emoticon an a shortcut to make it, he'll add it. We even have a bABA emoticon. And Eagle, I think you are way too involved in this website. Don't take this as an offense, but you're overanalyzing these little mundane details that are of no consequence in the grand scheme of things. I seriously can't believe how much time and energy you and others wasted on Maverikk. Take the hands off approach, and the issue goes away within a matter of days, cause nobody cares about Maverikk's insecurities (except him, maybe). Make a bunch of threads about it - and guess what, it becomes a major headache. If you want to attract many new users to the website, then this website has to have something original to offer. Galia's our best reviewer (in my opinion, anyway) - make her reviews more prominent. loyal writes hilarious stuff - make that the first thing people see when they come to the website. You shouldn't encourage equality over quality; and you shouldn't pay much attention to the drama queens either. Sorry to go off on a rant like that, but if you're going to get yourself worked up like that, then it's going to take away from your poker game. And we don't want that to happen
Few tidbits. Thought this would be a good opportunity to bring them up.
Galia, is indeed the best writer on this board. In light of that, her reviews as well as her articles have been promoted on other forums or sites. Galia had her horror article featured on some site i seem to forget now. We or atleast i used to post her reviews on other boards but quickly realized its just rude to other boards when i create a thread with a link. so once in a while, if we review something ahead of time, i leave a post in an existing thread.
Other than that:
We've looked into more applications for critics societies for galia and some of them are being discussed seriously.
we've also acquired publicist lists for galia. once galia has a few things back on track, we'll be looking into those very seriously as well.
the bigger problem though, that we've been dealing with is the website. while writing an article was fine, maintaining the site with proper links all over the place was a massive hassle. while eagle and i found a way to build our own little cms from scratch, it sadly didn't work too well for search engines. navigation through our site for search engines has become a huge issue. in light of that, we've been working on fixing that up. a few countermeasures have been taken, yielding good results. a few more are coming shortly.
and thats really what the problem with. with personal lives being more important than the site right now, and with the site itself requiring so much of our resources, we're getting little time for actual marketing as of late. our goal is to completely sort out all site issues, including but not limited to automation of a few more sections and consistent updating of news (which really is our biggest issue right now), trailers and dvd.
we have managed to make a bit of headway in opening some sort of communications with a couple of studios (details private) but right now, more than anything, i'm looking for some exclusive news type material for the promotion of the site. right about now would be the perfect time.
thought i'd keep you guys updated.

Eagle, I've always admired your ability to stay impartial to a lot of the issues people have with the site. Myself, I'd get pissed off with the first person who voiced an issue. I'd either ban them on the spot or track them down and bash their heads in with a baseball bat - maybe even both!
Definitely both...
It's very easy to take things for granted. I wouldn't want this place to go up in smoke for the world, as I'm sure countless others wouldn't. The posters that voice their grievances (who aren't just being tits) are just trying, in their own way, to make the community better. The toll their grievances must take on a person in your position must be huge and quite depressing, but, to look on the bright side, the forums are thriving. Clearly people love coming here; be it to argue, to piss and moan, or to just talk about films.

Cheers for the update bABA.
Mates, do you realise that in less than a month many of us will be celebrating our one year anniversary on these boards? We have certainly come a long way from that one evening that we silently infiltrated Eagle's board and he awoke the next morning to welcome us with open arms and then proceed in creating an environ where we could prosper. There are certainly growing pains and the road ahead may be challenging, but I am grateful for the chance to have been a part of this. I have made contact with a lot of wonderful people here and hope I have an opportunity to do so in the future. Thank you.

I agree strongly with what Krem said over the smiley issue, and I can certainly see how it could trigger Eagle's already discontent with how many issues are discussed and handled. Instead of giving constructive criticism and making suggestion on what a combined set they would have chosen, people somehow become all emotional over the smiley change and basically accusing Eagle of even thinking about making the change. It's much easier to say "the new set looks f****** retarded" or "brings back the old one now or I'll leave!", but that's much less helpful and really didn't take how much effort Eagle spent to find and get those new ones into consideration. There are too many "I don't like" going on and too few "I suggest this" that follows. This applies to the forum and the site. Maybe we should think more on what we could help in term of writing articles or making it better known or help to write codes or whatever, if we indeed want the site to not just survive, but grow. This is not a commercial site after all, and we'll run into problems as we move along.
Eagle, as the owner of the site, you may not need to be so involved with every thread in the forum and invite more stress. Same applies to Arsi. You guys set your own priority, whether it's main site design or getting more contribution from us or blah blah, and focus on that. I can certainly see how a site started out as a hobby (fun) and now turns into a burden (not fun). I mean, we're not going IPO with this.

Ok, I admit I have been a bit of a snob, but it's not been intentional. Those comments in that Clockwork Orange thread were in jest! In jeeesssttt! Oh God, please don't ban Mr. X, Eagle, please don't! And don't ban yourself either Ban Michael all you want, though His celebrity thread is becoming excessively popular.
Oh, and
I LOVE the new smilies! I mean, take a look this one:
So incredibly cute! Cute, cute, cute! CUTE!
And this:
God, if those were animals, I'd buy them in a second!
