NZ and Australian release dates are normally the same, generally....LOL. :D

The only reason LOTR didn't debut in Australia the same week as NZ or the other major markets was because Boxing Day was more lucrative.

I know, but I just checked the day you announced this film here on the forums and checked with the local cinema and they told me the 01. Jan.. I hope that changes. Box Day is really the best day to debut it!

More importantly, it has been the day i've watched all 3 LOTRs for the first time.......brings back wonderful memories, all 3 years at the same theatre.....LOL.......i'm going to miss that.....

Sad...very sad indeed preciousss!

But now that Phantom is scheduled for Boxing Day, that tradition continues for me.....i love seeing a movie which i have anticapted on that day.....and next year, it continues with PJ's KK allready securing a spot for Boxing Day.

Hopefully PJ gets the go ahead for The Hobbit in the meanwhile and we may yet have that to look forward to a few years down the road! :D

Yes the precious is gone......but it will be remembered. :D

I was watching David Letterman and Tom Hanks was on promoting The Polar Express. He said that PE used the same motion capture technology used to create Gollum, and when i heard that, it brought a smile to my face.....Tom Hanks also said that TTT was a great film.....LOL :D ....yay!

The Hobbit will happen IMO, it's only a matter of when......and when it opens, i'm sure it will be the biggest movie since Phantom Menace in terms of anticipation..... :D ........and you guessed it, i'll be betting $10billion dollars that it has the exact same release patter as LOTR......why mess a formula that works.

Boxing Day might be Peter Jackson depending on how KK does next year......LOL :P

Chicago wasn't that "light" was it......it was pretty dark in lighting and the mood of the story focusing on murder and attention seeking......

The only thing that worries me about Phantom is the music, and how the emotions will play out........all fingers cross that it blends well....

I can't wait to see how the Love Triangle plays out......AGAIN, NO SPOILERS PLEASE......LOL :D

Even though Chicago had the murder in it. I thought it was a light movie. The murder was goofed on, mr Cele.... man, Gere in the court room, Renee in jail, etc, the ending scenes in that play, etc.

But seeing the trailer for Phantom, it just seemed darker and I was wondering how the BO would be.

That said, I have seen the play 3 times - NY, LA and London and loved it plus a number of the older movies. So I am there to see it opening weekend.

I don't think this film (or play for that matter) was ever intended to be light! It is a dark and brooding story laced with heartache and passion enriched by incredible music that echo's all of the aboved mentioned and even more! I also think casting two reasonably unknown actors as the leads was a brave and daring choice! So far things look brill! Time will tell, but I do not expect to be disappointed whole-heartedly! The visuals alone are outstanding thus far!

And...for the record, Chicago didn't even appeal to me and I have no real adoration for any of the actors in that film anyway! I did think Bridget Jones (the original) was alright though!

Beautifully written Miruvor...... :D

For such a loved story, i don't think choosing A-Listers would work well.....they are making a daring choice, and it's also great that they are choosing a bright up and commer in the form of Emma Rossum......she was fantastic in TDAT..... :P

I hope all the main cast members get an Oscar nomination......and that might happen if the movie is well received.

Just to clarify, I was making my comments in relation of how it will do at the BO and Oscars where Chicago did well in both.

And on Emma R, I am looking forward to seeing her as in addition to the TDAT, she also played the murdered daughter in Mystic River.

Phantom i don't think can match Chicago domestic.......afterall the glitz and glamour is so Hollywood....and its doubtful that Phantom will achieve the same Oscar attention.....

But where Chicago did not do as strongly, eg. overseas.......Phantom will soar (hopefully)......i'm expecting Bridget Jones like numbers somewhere near $200m.

This is probably the "it" adults movie in December outside of Ocean's 12.....

Don't you think this rose symbolises so much about Phantom......LOL, one of my favourite pics so far.....

Slowly, gently, night unfurls its splendour
Grasp it, sense it - tremulous and tender

Turn your face away
From the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night
.
.
.
.
.
.
Floating, falling
Sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me
Savor each sensation
Let the dream begin
Let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

:D :D :D :D

Well done Arch..we are like of mind on this one I fear! :P
So much is captured in that one moment of that perfectly embellished falling rose!
I can't help but repeatedly see it in my mind over and over,
and the way the Phantom is so distraught just before!
Unrequoited love... always tragic...*sigh* :(

"A big "Phantom" entrance"

By: Liz Smith

NEW YORK - When the history of movies has come and gone, there'll be more than a footnote about "The Phantom of the Opera," opening Dec. 6 in London and Dec. 12 in the United States. Based on the 15 minutes I've seen, I predict it's going to be an unforgettable hit.

And Hollywood probably is already biting itself in exasperation because it may have to think of a best picture Oscar for the film's intrepid producer, Andrew Lloyd Webber of Britain.

Like Mel Gibson before him, Webber has personally put up the entire amount of money - $90 million - to make his great stage opus into a magnificent film that La La Land cannot possibly ignore.

NYPOST: Raves Phantom

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11162004/gossip/liz.htm

Part of the article:

"And now millions of people who have never been lucky enough to discover this show on a stage, will see the "Phantom" story for the first time. Others will be revisiting its epic thrill. I have seen just 15 minutes of this movie musical spectacle. I didn't have to see more. It is incredibly beautiful, tantalizing, stunning.

If there is an ounce of justice at the Oscars, they'll just give up and hand Lord Andrew the prize. "Phantom of the Opera" is a fabled movie moment coming now and stretching back to Lon Chaney's silent original."

--------------

Man, these little articles are getting me all excited......i'm so hoping the movie lives up to some of these comments........can you sense the buzz growing for this......

......all Oscar colums now are not leaving out Phantom......this is what i hoped for all along...... :Jump:

"Think of me, think of me fondly, when we've said good-bye!
Remember me, once in a while, please, promise me, you'll try!
When you find that once again you long to take your heart back and be free...
If you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me!

We never said, our love was evergreen or as unchanging as the sea, but if you can still remember, stop and think of me.

BTW Miruvor, i just purchased the Spiderman 2 DVD........LOL......AUD$29.83 with a free Spiderman Drinking Glass.....LOL

Have you got your's

I also saw The Grudge, what a dissapointing movie.....it's not scary whatesover, i know the intention is for subtleness......but common, at least have something in there which scares the crap out of you. The crowd was actually laughing at the scary scenes because some of them were just utter stupid.......i.e, Yoko popping her head into the attic.....

This could be a problem.....The Ring was so chilling and potent that this one felt flat......the build up was slow and the acting mediocre.....

Leaving the theatre i could hear people dissing it, saying i spent 2 hours watching that crap....

Personally i didn't get the whole picture.....if someone has already deciphered the mystery to this movie....give me a buzz.....i'm so lost with this one.

Overall: B-B+
