I say good night, as well.
Trying my hardest not to be too dramatic, I'll say that it was a night full of emotions for me. Definitely had me thinking, thinking a lot.
Hopefully I'll be waking up with a clear head, as I'm desperately in need of it right now.
'Night, folks, and dare I say it to the Bush folks...
Congrats.

I'm leaving for the night, too, and I will also do my best to limit the dramatics. I'm pretty distraught right now. Extremely emotional. I'll probably stay away for a couple of days. Whatever. Good night.

Eagle... McCain is fine for me, (I could see myself voting for him) but Guiliani scares me... He has changed a lot being on the national scene from what he was as a mayor in NYC (and I live in NYC, so I know his politics first-hand)... He's becoming lot more conservative to appease Christian Right and that pisses me off... The point that Eagle is making is that Democrats are in deep trouble. Your post partially confirms it (you'd be fine with McCain).
I know Krem, I'm just looking far ahead to the brighter future... beyond 2008...    Besides, I'm more of a Libertarian than Democrat....

John Kerry has just won Michigan according to CBS.
It's now.....
BUSH: 249
KERRY: 238
However, no other news source that I have seen has confirmed that.

John Doe,
He has I would agree. But i think alot of that has to do with WHERE he was before, and what he could run on. Obviously that background would not have helped him (and possibly hindered him).
New York has never been very republican, and for him to keep that office, he had to make certain concessions.
I say this is on a smaller scale to the way kerry is, and what bothered so many people about him. So maybe now you can understand how we felt, even if you disagree.
I think you are just now seeing the real rudy.

Good night everyone, it looks like the winner is certain.
The only comment that I have is that one thing that's gone more or less unnoticed is the issue of gay marriages. There were ballots in 11 states to ban them. I don't have the numbers right away, but I'd bet all of them passed.
Now, I understand that those ballots were instrumental in getting Bush elected, but it still gives me a very uneasy feeling. The only silver lining I see is that the ban on gay marriage might actually help pave way to civil unions, which is what's more importnat to me - equal rights and protections under the law. The word "marriage" I don't care about.

From what I have heard, 6 states have now banned Gay Marriage. (Yahoo) I need to double check that though.
I found an article on Yahoo that voters from 11 states OK gay marriages. Here is the link. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u ... arriage_10

The difference between votes in Ohio is now almost 200,000. It's going in the exact opposite direction that the Democrats were hoping for. (CNN)
To add onto that, New Mexico is basically in the bag for Bush, as with 98% of the precincts reporting, 52% is in favor of Bush.

As I said, my dear home state would be the key to this election, and the president would be the guy I voted for, as it has been everytime except the last time, but Bush stole that one, so I don't count it.
Congratulations to President Bush, and I hope he has a successful second term as our leader. I also hope that he remembers what Ohio just did for him, and does something about the 200,000 lost jobs that have happened while he's been in office.
To all the Kerry supporters, he was a weak candidate. If he wasn't, I would have voted for him. The democratic party has to get it's shit together, because they can't expect voters like myself to just vote for anybody that they throw into the ring.

That was the quickest speech I have ever seen, but basically, the Democrats haven't given up yet.
CNN has now confirmed that Kerry has won Michigan.

Depressing night. I'm kind of speechless. And on the verge of tears. Don't cry! Attention all Kerry supporters.
If you get out to Philadelphia, a dinner is on me!
Thanks Krem.
It was awfully nice of your great state of PA to throw a bone towards Kerry

He looked angry.
I won't lie, this isn't supprising to me.
Kerry talked earlier about healing the nation and blah blah, now he is going to drag this into the courts. Many people across the nation will see this as nothing different than 2000.
But it is different, it is much different. Kerry is clinging to almost no hope. There are 130,000 provisional ballots and a 122,000 bush lead. To think you will win all but 8,000 is irresponsible.
If Kerry gave a damn about the nation he would conceed. Obviously that isn't going to happen.

BUSH: 249
KERRY: 238
That is now official.
Check that. Hawaii has now gone to John Kerry.
BUSH: 249
KERRY: 242
(Yahoo! is reporting this)

I hope you said the same thing about Bush four years ago, where Gore had a lot stronger case to fight it in the courts... And yes, there was a bit of 'sneer' in his "we can wait one more night" sentence...

No I didn't.
Florida was TOTALLY different.
Ballots in florida were miscounted.
That is NOT AT ALL the case in Ohio.
You can not compare the two, unfourtunatly the majority of the nation will, and that bothers me.

Gore had a case because there were some really geninue issues in the way that the elections were run in some states, which led to a little watchdogging and some changes that were hopefully for the better. There was also a lot of voter fraud exposed this time before the election. We all know it happens. But even he had enough respect not to drag the country through it when it was clear that there was no hope, you didn't see him bringing it up again after the issue was closed.
Kerry will (probably) lose a close race, and that is a lot different than what Gore went through, although the numbers are slightly similar.
There's a difference between not giving up when you still have a chance at winning and dragging the country through the mud. All the votes are not counted. If and when they are counted and the victor is Bush, the victor is Bush, but I think Kerry has the right to not conceed until every last vote is accounted for.
If this is still going on in a week, it will be silly, but just because he is not conceeding at a decent time for the television cameras to capture it, does not mean he is dragging the country through the mud.
