Jackson named 'Most Powerful' in Hollywood
Not that we should all care what Hollywood says, but it's nice to know that it's someone from my wee country!
Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson has been named the most powerful person in Hollywood. Premiere magazine's June issue says the 43-year-old New Zealand-born director is one of the few "one man band productions that are changing the grid of the power structure" in Tinseltown.
Holding the number two position:
#2) Steven Speilberg
Falling from first place to third:
#3) Steve Jobs and John Lasseter of Pixar animations company

LOL...Guess Paul Anderson really isn't 'The Man'!!

Yeah?? Well after ROTS come out and makes about 400 Million dollars domestically, something the LOTR films couldn't even do, they'll have to bump PJ down the list and give the #1 slot to George Lucas.. You would have to if this movie ends up making that kind of $$$$ and it's only fair..

And when ROTS doesn't make the 400 million domestically that you've been dreaming of, what then will you do?
You still have to make good on your first oath, but what will you do for me BKB?

Back up your statement with proof then. Otherwise, you'll sound as though you're blowing hot air and grabbing for straws mate!

Well, it is believed PJ has commandeered for the largest upfront payout ever to a director for any film before production even goes into effect plus a 20% backend deal-. It is said that this has changed the leverage of directors in Hollywood. Speilberg, Lucas, and others may certainly be richer, but they say PJ is the most powerful at the moment because of this.

That is nothing compared to lucas deal on his films,he is the one that really started those kinds of deals,he gets every profit made from star wars and INDY on merchandise and B.O minus the domestic take. And spielberg dosent have to worry about getting deals,he pays himself now in days with his own money from his studio with katszenberg and geffen,he probably makes a billion dollars a year.

Hey, read my signature.. Lecter was the next one up after Mav for mke to change my signature and it's been like 3 weeks.. Apparently, Lecter is busy with School so whomever is next in line, step up.. And ROTS will make 400 Million.. I've upped my prediction from 375 to 400 Million after all these glowing reviews..

Lucas finances his own films, so he's on another planet altogether. I am making reference to the ones, like PJ, who still ahve to deal with the Hollywood 'Beast'.

Is that why PJ was sitting at George's (and Cameron's) feet when the Showest pow wow was going on? The guys who are in charge of ILM, THX sound, PIXAR, and Dreamworks are definitely ahead of PJ in power. Unquestionably, so is James Cameron. I would even argue that Marvel's CEO for their movie division, Avi Arad, is more powerful than PJ at the moment. He just closed a distribution deal with Paramount similar to what Lucas has with Star Wars and 20th Century Fox. PJ doesn't have anything close to that kind of power.

What a joke. Peter Jackson makes one huge set of films and he is the most powerful. Come on folks, everyone here knows this is a bunch of crap. PJ made some wonderful films with his trilogy, but Spielberg is still the most powerful. Until Jackson can come and make a film that is not LOTR and make it successful, then and only then shoul;d he crack the top ten. But number one. Don't think so.

How is sending a video message to showest with a statement of support for this new 3d technology "sitting at George's and Cameron's feet"? Don't let your personal bias get the best of you again...

Cut it out ... PJ was at Showest, as far as I remember, and I could also bring up the ass licking that he does on the Star wars DVD. There is nothing false in my statements. He's not nearly as powerful as the other players are. That's a fact. Deal with it. It's your personal bias that can't see it, Cut it out.

Guys, couldn't we debate without the little naming calling's inserted within? It only eggs the other person on and is what creates flame wars. Defeat the person you are arguing with by out-debating them.

He's "the most powerful" because he commanded the highest payout ever to a director for Universal's King Kong.
That's what the metric is.
I don't agree either. Spielberg, as far as directors, is the most powerful.

Jackson is probably not the most powerful yet but if Kong is another
HUGE HIT
Then surely he will be getting up there..

I didn't comment on whether PJ is the most powerful director or not so quit this crap. If you're having an issue with that list sent an e-mail to Premiere Magazine.
Your Cut it out remarks when it comes to PJ speaks volumes...
