Baumer, Gigli and Lopez' 5-minutes role in Jersey Girl aside, most of her recent movies have been decent hits.

Shall We Dance opened to just around $11.8 million, held on very well and ended up with almost $58 million. More than anyone has expected for this movie and it had one of the best multipliers last year despite rather sub-par reviews. Worldwide it'll end up with $150+ million.

Maid in Manhattan opened to $18.7 million and made around $94 million. That's quite a decent gross for a romcom. It could beat out Two Weeeks Notice which starred the romcom giants Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock.

The Wedding Planner, another romcom with Lopez, opened to $13.5 million and made over $60 million in total for a great multiplier of almost 4.5.

Her not so successful movies, Gigli aside once again, were Enough ($40 million) and Angel Eyes ($24 million) were not from the same genre. The former was a thriller, the latter much more of a drama. Monster in Law is much more reminicent of movies like The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan and Shall We Dance - a lighthearted comedy with romantic elements. I don't see why it should make less than at least $50 million domestically.

That you for making this correction as I noted above - she deserved the close to 100 million BO for Maid in Manhattan.

Remember how badly you thought The Stepford Wives would do opening weekend?

I'm just saying - it's going to happen all over again, baumer.

IT's a lock to open up well because of Lopez.

Add Fonda and it also appeals to a slightly olde4r crowd.

Add the fact that Lopez actually looks like she's kinda good in this...as well as the movie itself.

Opening: $21 million
Total: $78 million

I think Monster-in-Law will definitely be a success. It does have some things going against it. It opens in a crowded weekend, but much like Kicking and Screaming, which I do expect to win the weekend, even though I'm betting it's just more overrated Will Ferrell schtick, it will benefit from being a movie that has the laugh factor going for it, and coming off the lead-in weekend with movies like Crash, Kingdom of Heaven, and House of Wax, the audience will more than eat up some lighter fare.

- Kicking and Screaming - PG
- Monster-in-Law PG-13
- Unleashed - R Rated
- Mindhunters - R Rated

The summer finally gets a more open playing field in terms of ratings. Those movies will benefit tremendously. Monster-in-Law will appeal to generations, as even this thread shows that members would go with their mothers to see it. J-Lo, who has been trying hard to change her image, and doesn't like the name J-Lo anymore, does have a fanbase, and Jane Fonda has fans that go back a long way. I somehow doubt that Will Ferrell and Robert Duvall are the same type of pairing.

I wouldn't exactly call Jane Fonda a "has been", since she did walk away on her own terms, and I do believe that there are people who will come out to see her return, including people that don't go to the movies often. The most interesting aspect it has going for it, is that it will survive Sith better than anything else will. It's a good bet that the Kicking and Screaming demographic is going to be heavily going to see Sith the following weekend, and it should be noticeably more than the Monster-in Law demographic, which will consist of many girls who have little to no interest in our fanboy frivolties.

Monster-in-Law is my choice to see that weekend, with Mindhunters being the only other one that looks a bit interesting. Kicking and Screaming, and Unleashed are pretty much off my radar.

Does Jane Fonda even need money?

I would think she has her own. She made a fortune on 80's workout videos and I am sure got a divorce settlement. They passed the 10 year mark, so I assume it would have been substantial if there wasn't a prenuptual agreement involved.

As for the movie, I am sure I will end up seeing with it someone.
