 Re: September 6-8 predictions
100m is happening for sure at this point. Presales are too strong for it to miss it. I am thinking 3m early showings, 12m+ thursday and 110m OW at this point.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
Honestly surprised this is going to do so well. With no tracking I would have guessed 50s or 60s. Guess it's the "perfect" Burton vehicle to appeal to the general audience. Imagine if Depp was not where he is now and was starring in this lol

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
The original movie only adjusts to 196m so clearly the original got a huge following on home video or Ortega is really a HUGE draw among younger audiences.
When I picked it in the draft I was hoping for high 100ms, not the 300m it looks like it could do now.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
$100M+ for Beetlejuice is silly. The original isn't really even that great. Yet the character made itself part of the culture. 80s nostalgia is still hot and Ortega is a perfect casting to breach the generational gap for youngsters.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
Back in the 80s had no interest in the original as a 10 yr old but other kids at school seemed to love it (may have been on video though). So there is a nostalgia factor plus Ortega I is a big draw in things like this this.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
Adjusts to 194 million only? Need to look at it from a little better perspective. It’s a horror comedy from the 80s starring nobody when that genre was considered “do not touch.” Not only a surprise hit at the box office. it was a huge hit on television and video, launching the careers of Baldwin, Davis, Burton, Ryder and even Keaton. All exploded or got many big opportunities as a result of this movie. It remains a staple of the 13 nights of Halloween like hocus pocus, and has managed to stay relevant through that and broadway, and universal studios. It is a perfect kind of film for kids and adults. I think a sequel in the 90s would have equally seen a huge increase. That being said I think a 220 finish is very reasonable, does look like it can manage 70+ opening.
Early reviews are pretty encouraging too.

Gen Z needs to have a proper goth phase. Good time for new MCR album.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
It seems studios have now slowly figured out the TGM formula for rebooting 25+ year old franchises.
Beetlejuice and Twisters feel like the best examples this year.
Even D&W maximized early 2000s nostalgia here to add nearly double its gross from its predecessor. Very NWH.
Creed is another good example.
Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones is what not to do.
Even with inflation, and a cult following Beetlejuice 1988 didn't make it past $75M unadjusted. It's 36 years later going to possibly open to one of the biggest OW of the year. Maybe possibly tripling or quadrupling its unadjusted predecessor's gross.
Throwing a random idea out here, a modern day Crocodile Dundee with Hugh or Chris Hemsworth? The first one was absolutely massive (#2 behind TG in 1986). Feels like a ridiculous comedy like that could strike a chord again. It certainly worked for Borat in 2006 so the formula still has potential.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
Hemsworth certainly could use it.
I brought up the idea a few years ago of doing something with Saturday Night Fever.

 Re: September 6-8 predictions
78% after 40 reviews.
It’s hard to compare crocodile Dundees lightning success to boat. Australia was kind of an unknown entity to the world, now it’s a major tourist attraction thanks in part to that movie. Plus the sequels didn’t do as well, 2 was still a major success.
I’m more excited to see something cult like Highlander, clue, or even a legit tremors reboot
