Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
Like Top Gun Maverick, Beetlejuce and Twisters were movies where a sequel would've been a no brainer but it never happened, then decades later they revisit it and they break out.
What other movies could have this type of retrospective demand for a sequel?

Depp would have to be revived but maybe Edwards Scissorhands 2 would be a good follow up to Beetlejuice
Could they do a real sequel to The Mask. One thing that helps is you can hide Carrey behind make-up. For Dumb and Dumberer I never liked the look of older Carrey and Daniels.
Armageddon 2? Willis died in the first movie anyway so it works out.

Sound of Music ET Forrest Gump Independence Day I don't count it as having a real sequel. With Smith would be something. Ghost Without Swayze but feel it could strike a chord again. Reached #3 on all time domestic chart. Jerry Maguire Pretty Woman 2 Though Runaway Bride sort of played like one. Liar Liar 2 where he runs for public office or something seems like it could be pretty interesting. Mean Girls 2

Cant believe we never got Mr. and Mrs. Smith 2 or Wedding Crashers 2 in late the 2000s.
Twistee 2 circa summer 1999 or 2000 would have been a huge hit.

That is apparently getting a sequel. I don't know how it will work but I'm excited.

Re: Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
I just saw Kirsten Dunst showed up to watch a screening of Bring It On with a crowd this weekend and made me also think Bring It On should be on this list.
$68M in 2000 but I feel it's stayed relevant like Mean Girls.
Pitch Perfect 1 had a similar original box office tally before jumping to $184,296,230 with #2 and I feel like Bring It On can probably have a Twisters/TGM type reboot that would still work with today's generation. A $200M+ tally wouldn't be shocking.
Cobra Kai also just feels like a retread of the same type of story but with Karate so think audiences are still very much into this type of sports competition story they would just need to get the cast right and get Dunst and Union back.

Re: Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
How about Small Soldiers? A decent hit with an easily repetable premise of a more cynical Toy Story. And had a breakthrough actress in Dunst. I guess maybe the whole "Phil Hartman got murdered by his wife shortly before the movie opened" made production on a sequel a bit too macbre.

Re: Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
Ed Norton was just recently talking about a color of money type sequel for Rounders, I’d love that. In fact Tom for another pool movie as well.
Tango and Cash Mrs Doubtfire I know they tried for years, Williams probably another Jumanji Ace Ventura 3 Hocus Pocus theatrical release ET was definitely close, who framed Roger Rabbit as well The Rocketeer. Marks planet of the apes I’m really surprised the talented Mr Riley and interview with the vampire didn’t get legit sequels as well

Re: Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
I think inception would be a great series, its premise is perfect for a serial of the week like source code, definitely has pull like Nolan’s person of interest.
Oh completely forgot WWZ and probably will never get edge of tomorrow 2

Have never watched it but could District 9 get a sequel?

Re: Movies that could've had a sequel but never did
Nolan isn't a sequel director, and that's part of his appeal. Inception 2 is never happening.
But District 9 is a decent shout, although I consider Chappie to be Blomkamp's follow-up, and that was excellent, even better than D9.
Edge of Tomorrow doesn't need a sequel. World War Z could have, though.
