Post Harris’s VP Pick
Who’s riding with Kamala?

The top three names that come up are Kelly, Shapiro, and Beshear so I really think it a will be one of them. Gretchen Whitmer and William McRaven have both taken their names out of the hat. I am disappointed in McRaven. He was my dark horse pick as he would actually be good at the position and be the set up well to be a unifying president after Harris being a military guy.

Shapiro is the safe pick as they don’t lose a senate seat this way and would probably hand them Pennsylvania as he is very popular there. He would also shore up the Jewish vote, but might bring back up the topic of Gaza again with progressives which is a wedge issue for the Dems.

My gut tells me it is going to be Beshear as Kamala and him sound like they get along. But I think he lacks the riz.

Kelly is a good pick. He’s a man’s man and would help sway some of the misogynists. Problem is that is a senate seat they won’t get back in 2026. Kelly also lacks the riz.

It’s Andy Beshear FYI :)

I’m leaning towards Kelly but who knows.

Mark Kelly is a conditional #1, the one condition being the initial Kamala polling makes feel semi-confident about holding PA. Obviously Dem performance in 2022 PA elections is extremely, extremely encouraging for them.

Kelly checks every possible box from policy to story to charisma to fundraising to swing state to having his senate seat replaced by a democratic governor. He would make Arizona a lean blue. If it is Josh Shapiro, that is fine too, not quite as exciting a pick but very safe, he would lock PA up which is huge.

It needs to be one of these 2. Beshear from Kentucky is beyond boring, and Cooper from NC is pointless as winning NC is a pipe dream unless Kamala really explodes Obama style.

Kelly's seat would get replaced by a Dem due to the AZ dem governor, I believe. He is also very articulate in a blue collar, direct talking type of way which is a great contrast to Kamala. His story with his wife is also remarkable.

Honestly, if it is a Kamala Harris - Mark Kelly ticket, that is most appealing "suburb" ticket in a long, long time.

I'll guess Harris preference will be 1. Whitmer 2. Shapiro (despite being jewish) 3. Kelly however the first two says no being worried about risking their 2028 chances, Kelly is my pick for the one interested. If she can't get any of them she takes Tim Walz Minnesota governor and hope the proximity to rust belt swing states helps.

Shapiro would do a great job locking up those former Republican types. He oozes moderate and even feels like an old school Republican back when they still had integrity

Hamas is responsible for every single dead kid added to that pile, FYI, but anyone who's still anti-Israel at this point knows exactly what they're doing when they whine and shake their fists at the heavens over some random dead Palestinians.

Anyway, she should pick Adam Kenzinger if they're trying to get some moderate, anti-Trump Republicans to consider voting Democrat. I doubt they'd actually do a bi-party ticket, as no one does, but that seems like it's actually putting your money where your mouth is when it comes to the "bipartisanship" angle people like to ramble about ;)

Tbh I don't think Kamala should worry too much about the anti-Israel base. Needs to prove that she won't just cater to the extremists of the party like the other side is doing. Biden won because he represented "normal" in a battle of normal vs crazy. If they are upset about Kamala picking a jewish veep then they are closer to MAGA than liberal. Go with Shapiro. The entire election could come down to Pennsylvania.

They did in the 2019 primaries. Kamala is a moderate, but the air at the time in the Democratic Party was very Left and so she and others appealed hard to the Lefties. Now the Democrats are far more moderate and have become the party of the suburbs. I am really liking Shapiro.

I think the left wing has shifted though. The transgender bathroom issue seems pretty moderate compared to "should we support Hamas?"

Harris Beshear is weird. Hard to pronounce.

Harris Shapiro elicits thoughts of Ben Shapiro.

So it's got to be Harris Kelly.

Mark Kelly is veteran, an astronaut, and large time gun owner. He will make JD Vance and Trump look like weak little city slickers. Problem for Kelly is he’s not a great speaker

Post Re: Harris’s VP Pick
I think I am at my final position. If Kamala Harris needs Josh Shapiro on the ticket to win in PA, she is going to lose the election, because that would be a sign that she is trailing Biden significantly in key states that he won by small margins. A more reasonable theories Kamala should be able to able to win PA and MI on her own, give 2020 and 2022 performance. 1 of Wisconsin, GA, or AZ become the swing states that she will need to be put over the top. Shapiro does very little to help her in any of them. Kelly, on the other hand, will be a serious boost in Arizona (and elsewhere given his stances on the border and guns).

Mark Kelly needs to be the pick. And to be clear, he has blue collar, mans man charisma. Not "I am a Rhodes scholar, trust me I am really smart" charisma. I think he would be a big, big addition to the ticket. He would help her very much in the rust belt, even if it win't be quite the same bump in PA.

Mark Kelly. That is who it should be. End of story.

On paper, Mark Kelly is the dude, especially considering Shapiro will probably be president in 2028 or 2032. I just worry about Kelly’s charisma

Manchin would actually be a nice pick with Trump hammering her for being too left but they’re not going to do it.

Dems hate Manchin too much. A Kinzinger pick would work better if they wanted to go that route. But I think Kelly, Shapiro, or Beshear accomplishes the same thing, albeit at a weaker level

Josh Shapiro seems like an ideal VP Pick for Wes Moore in 4 or 8 years. Kinzinger has no experience.

Kamala Harris and Mark Kelly is an ideal ticket. Likeable but strong and not soft babies. Young but ample and diverse experience. Compelling stories for each person. Both smack in the prime. Remarkable comparison to the other ticket. Kelly is also a gigantic fundraiser.

The tough, but warm, hard-charging peoples champion female WOC leading the ticket alongside a friendly but firm combat pilot turning fucking astronaut turned senator husband to nearly assassinated and famous politician as VP?

It would utterly, absolutely dominate in the suburbs of Phoenix, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, etc.

Only Shapiro out of those guys has the appeal to help the ticket that much. Beshear is a no name in a state Harris has no shot at. And Arizona seems to dislike Kamala too much for Kelly to make up the difference given the continued polling outside the margin of error.

But unfortunately the anti semitic wing of the party won’t like him

AZ is going to tighten significantly as we get closer to Election Day.

I happen to agree. The Progressive base always seems to latch to some unpopular opinion on a presidential election year for the past two cycles. Defund the Police in 2020, and now their over the top attacks on Israel. It is a real wedge issue. It’s why I think you go with Kelly this time and Shapiro next time

I think the anti-semite stuff is being really overblown. The protesters are aware that Shapiro and co. are not actively bombing people. Election Day has a tendency to concentrate the minds, the protesters will know that Harris's ticket is much closer to their goal than DT would be :funny:
