 Twisters weekend thread
Deadline saying 7m for Wed/Thursday previews
Edit: saw over at BOT they are estimating 9/10, which would be terrific

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
Wow! It should pretty comfortably hit 80m with that and has a shot at 90m by my calculations

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
Deadline number is just thursday. Most studios these days club the early BO with friday rather than with previews. Edit: Charlie is saying 2.6m EA and 7.5m thursday. WOW

Welp, if this doesn't collapse against Deadpool this was probably a good release date for it lol idk if this would have done the same in May.

I really don't know why people were doubting this one. It is an easy sell with a ton of heartland appeal.

Damn this movie may not be frontloaded either!
We officially have a new male star in Powell.

I can't even recall some recent disaster movies, was there any recently that could have done well but flopped?

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
I think of Moonfall as a science fiction disaster movie. Twisters has a good chance of its North American box office grossing more in its opening weekend than Moonfall's worldwide box office grossing in its first 2 years ($59.1 million).

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
Empire says (with a grain of salt) he sees a MINIMUM of $31m+ for Twister's Friday. Higher based on strength of walkups

Geostorm Independence Day Resurgence Pompeii Moonfall It’s really bizarre that the sequel to ID4 flopped but the Twister sequel succeeded, considering how ID4 is way more remembered.

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
ID4 was the Will Smith show. Not having him was a big deal.
Twisters the special effects were the star of the film. Helen Hunt and Paxton were great for the time but not nearly as associated with that franchise.
Given Bad Boys 4's success, and the return of disaster films, a well executed ID4 sequel would do $400M+ and probably $1B+ worldwide in a best case scenario.
DHD has: Twisters at $72M DM4 $21.5M -51% / $257.1M IO2 $11.1M -44% / $594.6M Longlegs $10.2M -54% / $43.1M AQP $5.5M -52% / $127M
Everything in the top 5 is doing very well. That would be a $120.3M tally which isn't horrible.

Well just from my personal preference all of those looked terrible. And I doubt any of those were tracking well. Twisters had an appealing trailer. Resurgence was in 2016 jesus. I saw that in theaters and don't remember a thing. If they do another one with Will it'd do at least decent I think.

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
Awesome - so happy for this. It such a hard film to not like. Works nicely and the heartland appeal bolstered this over international.
It also works as a family film. I was surprised my kids liked it as much as they did. The douchy "youtuber" aspects also seemed to help as they could relate vs say a TV doco crew.

 Re: Twisters weekend thread
Twisters $34M est / $80M+ weekend / TBD Oppenheimer $33M /$82.5M weekend / $329,862,540 Dwisters / Twistpool may be happening. Twisters is going to be awfully close to Oppenheimer's OW. Barbie's $636M is going to be hardpressed for D&W but we could pull in 75% of the Barbenheimer box office tally. So a strong rest of summer and fall could narrow the gap significantly with last year.
