DHD also has Garfield at $1.3M/$4M -16% $85.5M. On its way to a 4X multiplier and possibly $100M from a $24M inflated 3day weekend against a $500M+ family film in its 4th weekend.

I'm blown away by its numbers because I really did not know the first was this liked. I would have put it in the Coco box of belovedness. More than an Ice Age but less than a Finding Nemo. But it appears it's up there pretty much with Toy Story.

It almost seems like the shift in the market post COVID is one where one or two movies break out HUGE but the market cannot sustain as many huge blockbusters like in the late 2010s, but a couple will outperform

The movie seems to be striking a chord beyond even Toy Story 3 in terms of Pixar sequels. It’s become a zeitgeist water cooler movie for sure.

Empire is saying 39m saturday for IO2. Should be sufficient for 100m 2nd weekend.

Beating its opening weekend in second weekend is crazy enough.

So Despicable Me comes out next week but will it hurt IO2 all that much? Feels like the market can handle both and IO2 should still be able to make it past Incredibles 2 domestic and Lion King worldwide.

DM4 is wednesday after next. i think IO2 can hold on post that as well. It does not need PLF to keep grossing as well. I expect it to be at 450m+ by the time DM4 opens anyway.

Inside Out 2 has 9 more days to itself until DM4 drops on July 3rd.

It’ll be close to $500 million domestic by then DM4 has no shot at beating IOU domestic or WW…..unless it too over performs like crazy that’d be nice. 2 powerhouse animated studios going at it like ALI vs FRAZIER!

7th biggest 2nd weekend ever. Idk if that will 100m will stick but looks good as a headline!

Phenomenal 2nd weekend and exactly what the summer needed. Hilarious twitter tried to use Fall Guy and Furiosa as examples of no one going to the theater and are dead and then this happens.

Audiences clearly still love theaters but the big studio marketing execs that keep green-lighting concepts that nobody cares about need to be kicked to the curb asap.

How did we not have a big budget D-DAY film for the 80th anniversary? Not SPR either - I mean a large scale tentpole ala Oppenhiemer. Would have been an easy grand slam if the film were any good.
