Re: Twisters
Yeah this had been a big wildcard for me before this week, felt like a movie that could easily end up being a Independence day: Resurgence level non-event and make $100M or even less, but this ended up being the third biggest benefactor from the Super Bowl among the movies, and not far behind Deadpool 3 or Wicked despite not having nearly as strong of a built-in fanbase as either. So that raises the basement for this to $100-150M at least. Opening just one week before Deadpool & Wolverine is a little close for comfort, but as long as it's good it should withstand that movie and possibly leg out through August.

Re: Twisters
Trailer is good, I have no idea how this is going to do....it is a remake ? But with Glenn Powell's top gun character in the lead?

Re: Twisters
Jurassic World showed that blatant reliance on nostalgia works. This won’t reach the heights of JW but it will play well to a four quadrant audience hungry for a big budget non MCU adventure.

Re: Twisters
This will tank.
No one cares about disaster movies anymore. The original has little if any pop culture footprint. Glen Powell won’t be able to save it.

Re: Twisters
Feeling CW's box office is a positive sign for Twisters. $26M weekend from a small indie studio with no huge stars in mid April.
Twisters is opening in mid July, backed by Universal, star on the rise with Powell, a sequel with some element of nostalgia, and more global playability than CW. Up and coming director post Minari.
Feeling like it can do $40M+ here. Likely much more. Most importantly, showing audiences are willing to show up to disaster movies.

Re: Twisters
July looks so barren it'll probably open well. It looks like it could be entertaining. Opening a week before Deadpool is eh, maybe it should move up one weekend

Re: Twisters
not a breakout but not a flop. Twisters goes mid. current prediction this far out, OW within $2m of the OG’s OW.

Re: Twisters
They are going all in on heartland appeal and think this is a very smart move. The country music, mid west location and Powell should help given how popular TGM was in the heartland. Joseph Kosinski (TGM director) also wrote this screenplay.
If they were smart, they'd get Morgan Wallen to do the main song on the soundtrack and push for it to be the "song of the summer." Would help possibly make this a zeitgeist film you have to watch. Not seeing a flop here.
Already announced that Luke Combs will have a song featured on the soundtrack too. It launches May 16th and will help further raise awareness of the film.
Having a director raised in the midwest will also help and having this as his Minari follow up makes me more excited about this than just any popcorn flick.
I'm feeling Twisters and Horizon 1/2 are going to be a huge jolt for the summer box office.

Re: Twisters
Having a country soundtrack is genius and could seriously help this.

Re: Twisters
I'm thinking this is gonna be a big hit. The trailers are decent and make me surprisingly keen to see it. Even though its a sequel it feels kind of fresh as its not some big IP.
