Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
It's actually playing at a theater (a Marquee Cinema) just over an hour from me. It has 2 showings each day that showtimes are currently available (Apr. 23-29). It also has a preview showing on the 22nd. Ticket sales are looking good. I don't know the capacity of which this theater is operating under (the marked off seats are really all over the place for each day), but I'm estimating anywhere from 1/3 or 1/2 of the seats have been sold for most of the showings.
I was fully expecting a ~4 hour drive to Pittsburg.

I was fully expecting a ~4 hour drive to Pittsburg. Yeah it seems to be playing at pretty much every Cinemark and AMC in the Chicago suburbs. Considering how absolutely dire the market is right now (There aren't even any wide releases scheduled for next weekend?!) I think the chains are all more than willing to take a chance on an anime with a devoted fanbase.

That sounds really promising and DS has that natural marketing from entire last year's Japan run.

Very nice. Also, tickets have been purchased! Going on Monday (26th). About a 90 minute drive (but closer than expected). Checked with the theater beforehand on the spacing (since sold seats and unavailable seats had the same marking online). It's 50% capacity with spacing in the checkerboard style (so no person is ever sitting next to another, or behind/in front of another). First movie I'll be seeing in theaters since Onward last March.

Do we have any box office info about Finland or South Africa yet? (or does the finnish release not count yet)

So I have never watched this show, I should watch it before the movie right? Lol I'm curious since it's so big in Japan, seems to be selling really well in my area.

Yes, watch the first season. This movie begins right where the first season ends (last episode literally leads into the movie), acting as a direct continuation of the story.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Is there anyway that we can predict the pre sales of the movie in the U.S. at this point? Fans start to complain that many showtimes are nearly full in many areas. It seems the demand is high now.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Looks like I got a source for Demon Slayer numbers: https://twitter.com/ichika_kasuga/statu ... 9364156422As of April 12, 2021, the film has grossed more than $433.72 million with a estimated ticket sales of 36.7 million. South Africa: ~$100k Japan: $379.2M Taiwan: $22.3M South Korea: $14.3M Thailand: $4.21M Hong Kong: $4.12M Indonesia: $1.98M Singapore: $1.91M Malaysia and Brunei (combined): $1.48M Vietnam: $0.7M Laos: $0.014M Australia: $3.01M New Zealand: $0.50M How does this match up to your box office numbers?

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
I think charlie jat can confirm that. I've been checking the wiki for 2020 in films and highest grossing anime of all time pages as it gets updated weekly. Yesterday, the gross of DS was around 430 million USD. i don't know who changed it to 414M usd. The reference is of as well unlike when I checked it yesterday which show a list like yours letsmaybeLP92 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of ... nime_filmshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_in_film

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
The number is ~$0.2 million too high in Japan. I track it every day using the exchange rate for each individual day. I can't confirm any other markets because I don't follow them or know of any official sites that report number on them. I generally use the figures that charlie jat posts here when I update the original post, but all of those look like they're pretty much what's been reported (or at the least estimated). And just watch with Twitter "sources." They're really just like us and estimate for the most part. In Japan, no official dailies are released by an official source, ever, unless the distributor themselves release it. This particular Twitter user says they use https://numero.co/, which I won't dispute since I don't know if they do, nor if they release numbers from Japan. But if they do, they'd still need to be converted since USD figures are most definitely not being reported.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Yeah though I would think the numbers aren't too off. Sure a few hundred thousand is still a lot, but it's not like Demon Slayer is only at 414M now like it was edited to... and definitely way more than Box Office Mojo's reported numbers (especially since BOM don't even report Taiwan grosses for the movie)

Wow, a really good result for South Africa. This is why Nu Metro added more showtimes for this weekend.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
BOM is "fine" to use for short runs (say, 2 months), but don't trust them otherwise unless the exchange rate in whichever market you're looking at has remained stable/consistent for many months at a time. And I'll tell you now, that's very, very rare.
BOM just converts whatever the current total is in domestic currently into USD for their dollar figures. It's quick and easy, but horribly inaccurate. It's especially awful for long runs that go on for 4-6 months (or more) because the exchange rate changes A LOT in half a year's time. They've had this issue since the very beginning.

Yes, it is very promising. Most are capped at 50 seats unless the auditorium has under 100 seats, in which case it's 50%. Still pretty low, but even at those rates I haven't seen much sellouts for anything aside from GvK.
