I thought Volcano sucked and haven't seen Dante's Peak. Should I even bother?

None of these two are great but I prefer Volcano more because even if cringy it has a whole lot of tension in it. Dante's Peak builds and builds with not too much payoff in the end.

Kids- Volcano Male Lead- Volcano (Tommy Lee and his team were more believable) Female Lead- Volcano (At least Anne Heche had a job and was useful) Location- Volcano (LA city and residents more interesting) Deaths- Volcano (Lava Kills!)

Dante's Peak has the scene where the old lady walks into the water and is burning alive to move the boat like 5 feet. Dante wins.

I was going to mention that scene, as it's my favorite scene from both of the movies. But overall, Volcano wins for me.

I forgot about that (haven’t seen the movie in decades), but you’re right. I voted for Dante’s Peak because it felt a little more intimate and real, and I think it came first making Volcano seem slightly redundant. Stand out scene in Volcano for me was when the guy jumped or fell off the subway car into the lava and slowly burned/melted alive. yikes!

Where's the Armageddon vs Deep Impact thread?

I recently re-watched both and while I still do enjoy both Volcano actually ended up being the better film IMO.
