Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
Disney deserve this after dropping the ball on this franchise AFTER The Force Awakens.
They did that right (considering the how poor the prequels were) and the box office proved it. But everything they have done since has contributed to the franchise rot (I'm talking mainly about over-saturation and devaluing the series).

After finally seeing it yeah I think they definitely dropped the ball on this franchise. Now, I still enjoyed it overall, but man a lot of it is so rushed and you can tell they needed another movie to flesh these damn characters out. I could be a real crowdpleaser though since it moves at a great pace and their is definitely a ton of action throughout.

They should have just killed Poe. He's Han without the Han. He is definitely used better here. What a waste of finn.

The difference between it doing $1.5B WW and $1B WW is important for Disneys financial statements but it won't really change plans moving forward. We're still going to have a bunch of D+ shows come out, we'll still have video games, we'll still have the DisneyWorld parks, etc. Maybe they won't rush out a theatrical films now cause they'll be more cautious about what to do next for feature films but frankly that's something they should be doing regardless.
That said, it just will feel sad that a episodic SW film will not even be close to one of the biggest WW movie events year (every other one has won its year). The film could actually be as low as #9 on the WW list for the year even if it passes $1B. Number nine! Except for the worst one (AOTC).

I think below $180m opening would be pretty damn bad for this.
Not sure how many could have conceived of that 4 years ago.

PTA is the only person who has a strong visual idea, knows how to manage ensemble casts very well, and knows how to make family dynamics work. Star Wars at its best is visuals + ensemble fun + family drama. He even commented on his idea of SW: https://www.indiewire.com/2017/12/paul- ... 201908433/I wouldn’t trust anyone else. Nolan can do anything

Not sure how many could have conceived of that 4 years ago. Yes indeed. The funny thing is $180m OW in December prior to 2015 would have been mind boggling. Now (for the final film in this series) it will be disappointing.

This should still put up monster numbers for the next two weeks even with soft word of mouth.

China has never been a big market for SW. Let's wait for other markets to call off $1b WW.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
I have a feeling the WOM from the regular general public will be pretty great. In my sold out showing last time, everyone bursted out clapping at least six times. Also, EVERYONE I have spoken to in real life has LOVED it and thinks it’s one of the best. This may end up surprising everyone.
