Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
I'm guessing it'll be a Marvel film but since we don't know the slate yet... Quote: Onward Buena Vista 3/6/20 Mulan (2020) Buena Vista 3/27/20 Untitled Marvel Movie (May 2020) Buena Vista 5/1/20 Artemis Fowl Buena Vista 5/29/20 Untitled Pixar Animation (June 2020) Buena Vista 6/19/20 Jungle Cruise Buena Vista 7/24/20 The One and Only Ivan Buena Vista 8/14/20 Untitled Marvel Movie (November 2020) Buena Vista 11/6/20 Untitled Disney Animation (3D) Buena Vista 11/25/20 Cruella Buena Vista 12/23/20
Seems pretty weak compared to this year. Surprisingly none are sequels unless one of these is Doctor Strange 2 or something.

I hope one of them is Dr Strange. But based on reports its black widow and Eternals. Incredibly weak. Disney went all in 2019 for Disney+ and left 2020 slate weak. Should have opened Lion King and/or Frozen in 2020.

Re: Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
If the biggies weren't in development, then it's actually a good strategy because the big 2019 will set up demand for a weaker 2020 making it actually decent-sized. Eternals and Black Widow, to my great dissatisfaction, will probably do better than everyone thinks. Plus, they have a Pixar movie, Jungle Cruise, and Cruella. It's not going to be a disastrous year. And what's that Disney animation in November? They usually do at least $200m.
And as much as I think/hope Mulan will flop, the other live-action Disney movies have done fairly well.

Mulan worldwide. It will do $400m+ in China alone.

Onward is an original Pixar right? So we are getting two Pixar films in the first half of the year.

International it’ll be Mulan (thx to China). It’ll have chance to beat Endgame’s China record. Domestically I don’t know yet

Such a shitty year for them after years of huge hits; I hope whatever Pixar releases does well, don’t care for their live action tales or marvel crap anymore after Endgame.

Disney pretty much guaranteeing that there's going to be more hype for what's on Disney+ than opening in theaters next year.

it would be crazy if they don’t have a 300m domestic grosser. But I am sure they will have some breakout.

Christmas 2020 looks empty indeed, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad should move there. Having The Batman, Space Jam 2 and TSS, all 3 within a month and a half is damn stupid....

Re: Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
I’m not worried about 2020 if I were Disney. These films do $200m off of their own inertia. As long as they are not expecting Year over Year increases until The Second Coming. They may not have as big of a year as 2019 for several years BUT THAT’S OK. As long as there are expectations set (investors, Wall Street, etc) they will be fine in terms of their actual bottom line.

First Onwards trailer was ok. What if mythical creatures lived like humans? Can’t help but feel like that premise has been done before, by them, so I don’t see it going much higher than $200M.

Re: Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
Pixar has dilluted their brand too much in recent years with films like Good Dinosaur, the Cars sequels, and endless sequels to their most famous films, so I'm not sure Onward is a slam dunk anymore. Disney doesn't seem to have a surefire mega smash in 2020. Of course there are still Marvel movies coming, if they announce Doctor Strange 2 or something that'll be that.

Yeah I don't get the idea that a Doctor Strange sequel would be this sure-fire winner of the year. He's a side character, and Endgame put an end to the current MCU hot streak. We should see Marvel movies post-Endgame start to normalise.

Looks like we're getting 2 original Pixar films. The one in June is called Soul.

I would go with Soul. Pete Docter and theme looks great.

It’s looking like another good year for Disney. 2 Pixar films, 2 MCU films, Mulan live action, Jungle Cruise, Cruella...

Re: Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
Update:
Onward Buena Vista 3/6/20 Mulan (2020) Buena Vista 3/27/20 Black Widow Buena Vista 5/1/20 Artemis Fowl Buena Vista 5/29/20 Soul Buena Vista 6/19/20 Jungle Cruise Buena Vista 7/24/20 The One and Only Ivan Buena Vista 8/14/20 Eternals Buena Vista 11/6/20 Untitled Disney Animation (3D) Buena Vista 11/25/20 Cruella Buena Vista 12/23/20
I'm thinking...
-Mulan will do really well. Open high and if it's good it may finish with Aladdin domestic #s, maybe even higher. Think it could potentially do more than both MCU films. -expecting the Pixar films to gross in the 200s. -Both MCU films will likely do $250m minimum. -Jungle Cruse could see 150-200m. Need to see trailer first. -see Mary Poppins #s for Cruella. -Artemis Fowl looks like a total flop.
Probably will get what went wrong articles next year when we don't get 4+ billion dollar Disney Pictures.

Re: Disney's 2020 - what will be their biggest movie?
I’d say the favorite is Soul since it should play as an Inside Off spin-off. Black Widow has a low ceiling, Eternals has a low floor, Onward will be the other Pixar movie. Cruella has holiday legs in its favor and Mulan will be huge overseas, but can’t see any if these hitting $350M domestic.

Domestic? No idea. One of the Pixar movies prolly....or Eternals.
Eternals - $260m One of the Pixar flicks - $240-260m
