Re: Best Picture 2019
If Black Panther wins (won't happen) it will be huge for black people. More than for just a few days. But come next year they'll still feel underappreciated and underrepresented. It's a cultural tactic to gain shit. The sob story will unearth itself and they'll push another lame ass movie with a black cast into the limelight, and dumbass white liberals will worship it to show they're not racist. Seriously weird how so many other countries are over the whole racism/guilt thing but America is still crippled by it.

Black Panther A Star Is Born The Favorite Roma Green Book BlackkKklansman
Vice Bohemian Rhapsody Crazy Rich Asians
Yes the last two are pretty unlikely, but I think they will get in for two reasons; 1) The oscars are panicking about declining viewership and will favor more popular films this year and 2) Since black people, latinos and women are already decently represented, they will have to make sure there is no backlash from asians and gays. Everybody wins! Well the last two have gone from longshots to good picks after getting SAG and PGA noms. Vice also got the PGA, but the movie kinda sucks so I’m bumping it out for either (the likely pick) Eighth Grade or (hopefully, but a fool’s hope) A Quiet Place.

I think The Favourite has a chance to win BP as well. Green Book beating it doesn't mean everything

I think it's Green Book vs Roma vs A Star is Born. If A Star is Born loses PGA or doesn't win anything at SAG I'm gonna guess it's dead.

Re: Best Picture 2019
The King's Speech, Spotlight, The Shape of Water lost Best Drama at the Globes so ASIB could bounce back. That ASIB lost sooo badly including Gaga, could also reflect some kind of weird HFPA bias this year

I throw Black Panther in there as well. Considering it is so up for grabs, it has a chance of winning.

The Globes are meaningless because they don't share members with the Academy but I will cackle if Bohemian Rhapsody wins BP.

Seeing lots of backlash against Green Book today (a tweet from the writer regarding the twin towers going around and Farrely flashing people his junk).

Re: Best Picture 2019
perhaps it's because I haven't seen many of the "main" contenders yet, but..... this year just seems strange. And I don't really give a fuck about the Oscars when none of my 'faves' are represented. Four years ago, my top 5 of the year were everywhere: Birdman, Boyhood, Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash and Interstellar (well, that one not so successful). Loved it. And the year with Arrival and Moonlight---my top 2 of the year!! Even Spotlight year had Mad Max ripping shit up, like, that was the weirdest fucking movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture I think.
This year is like...... what the fuck are these movies? I have very little interest in this race.
That said:
of films I've seen... 0% chance of Black Panther winning anything major, DEFINITELY not Best Picture (sorry, it's not that amazing) I also have a very, very hard time seeing Roma winning the big prize. It just won't.
films I haven't seen The Favourite, Vice, Bohemian Rhapsody.... none of those 'seem' like Best Picture winners AT ALL
I think it's going to be A Star is Born, with an outside shot at Green Book (backlash against the backlash against the backlash... against the backlash....), with BlackKlansmen as a dark horse (though does it really have the passion?). Even typing that sentence made me realize how stupid this year seems. I guess I'm rooting for BlackKklansmen, which was not perfect, but was riveting, relevant, and superbly balanced entertainment.

Re: Best Picture 2019
Which are ridiculous. But yeah it has been killed as a contender.
That doesn't leave us with much more than Panther VS. KKK Vs. ASIB.
Surely the Academy wont select Black Panther. Would be hard to fathom.

Re: Best Picture 2019
Panther is probably unlikely after missing director and editing guild, and if they want to go black they can go Klansman

Re: Best Picture 2019
It does seem like there’s just too much prejudice and discrimination working against Black Panther. The colonizers just can’t accept a movie with these type of people. Hopefully the academy will be able to see the light before its too late.
Or everyone else has a controversy. How bout that Bryan Singer?

Re: Best Picture 2019
Please, how can they award a movie where the country inhabitants are not reliant on any other country or organization and they spend generations stitching themselves in, concealing their substantial economic and technological advancements. They are behind a wall, unseen and inaccessible. Wakandans don’t live abroad, and foreigners are not granted access to their country. Decisions made and actions taken in Wakanda are for the achievements and advancements of their countrymen, not the rest of the world. Keep Wakanda Great!

Re: Best Picture 2019
Well both Wakanda and the academy are stuck in the modern PC life- where instead of eliminating all discrimination we just shift it from one group who is perceived as weak to another that is thought strong enough to take it - like Marvel.
