Yeah, $300 million is completely unrealistic. It's not like any of the Star Wars films have ever reached that mark.

It's a huge shift in marketing, giving it this cheesy happy-go lucky ad campaign for such a dark movie. It'll give it a bigger opening weekend, but even worse legs methinks. However, I personally think it looks AWESOME. Moviedude, the legs for this last SW are gonna be incredible and automatically right off the bat, I'm gonna say this movie will rule the summer at the box office with no problem.. You'd be surprised at how many fans wanted to see Vader and Chewbacca and the Emperor back in 1999 and didn't get it, but now were gonna get it and don't let this nonsense about it being too dark for kids fool ya.. If kids can withstand the dark violence that was in the multitude of battles in the LOTR films, then there is no reason why they can't handle this.. Lucas is just being modest and talking out of his ass and he knows it cause it isn't like he's gonna come right out on a show like 60 MINUTES and say his movie is gonna make a killing because that would make him come across as arrogant so he's playing that off... ROTS is gonna make an absolute fortune and already selling out a month early since tickets have gone on sale.. That says ALOT..Like I said, huge opening. But LOTR had a wider level of audience appeal. The Harry Potter movies are solid proof that the darker a film gets, the worse it's legs get when it has so much appeal to younger kids. The fact that it then had to deal with The Longest Yard and Madagascar, which I think could open to a a combined 130+ million, and I see the worst multiplier of the series, but it'll still be a massive hit and let Lucas roll in the dough. Harry Potter is just proof of the fact that if you start off mediocre, you'll lose your audience. No more.
Then why have they all had the same opening weekend from fans, but steadily worse legs? That's WOM right there affecting the legs, nothing else. Azkaban should have had the best legs of the series due to the opening weekend being overshadowed by Shrek with little competition afterwards, but despite being critically loved and declared widely as the best Harry Potter movie by adults and most fans, it's dark nature scared away the little kids who were it's main audience. And from everything I've seen, Episode Three looks to completely repeat this pattern.
And StarWars, yeah, it's not 100% absolutely completely no doubt about it impossible, but that's like saying that all of a sudden Osama bin Laden and his cronies dressed in S&M outfits couldn't burst into the White House and rape the president, then implant a bomb up his ass that'd explode when he went to the UN. It's semantics, the fact is that Star Wars WONT make that much, if it isn't impossible it may as well be. And you're declaring the same thing about how it WILL make more then 375 million, something that even the most ardent and optimistic fans are doubtful of, so don't go and make such pointless arguments if you just use the same material back, only even worse.

It's the last Star Wars movie and even if AOTC made only $302 million, this is guaranteed $300 million or above. The Empire Strikes Back - despite being far superior to Return of the Jedi - made $40 million LESS than ROTJ.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it has started.. The battle over how much or little SITH is gonna make that will ultimately end in a knockout, drag out brawl.. I also find it quite fascinating that in this day and age, we now consider a movie that makes 300 Million domestically a disappointment.. That's fucking incredible for a movie to make when you get right down to it.. BATMAN BEGINS will be lucky to even see a number like that..

The key there was ESB alienated the kids. Kids don't like Empire Strikes Back, they think it's too boring. Return of the Jedi was a lot more family-friendly [EWOKS] and therefore gained a bigger audience, something that doesn't happen too often nowadays.
The prequels are the opposite of that. The first two were family-friendly, and this one... is not.

How is AotC any more of a kids movie than ESB was? Of course, the generalized statement "kids don't like ESB" is false, although it does have less in it to appeal to young kids than most of the other episodes so far.

It's all in the context and colors. Attack of the Clones is a bright colorful movie that appeals to kids. Empire Strikes Back is almost all in dark blue and black. This may seem like a weird thing, but it directly appeals to emotions.
Also, all of the kids I know plus some older teens don't like Empire Strikes Back. I guess it's because they just don't get it, but it's my favorite movie of all time.

When I was younger I used to find Empire the least enjoyable, particularly the snow planet stuff at the start which came across as boring. I think I found it less exciting.
Nowadays its my favourite of the series.

Same here. It all depends on how Lucas does Episode III. I don't think it will be too boring for kids, but there could be a lot more emotional scenes that kids don't understand.

Actually, I think one of the main reasons AotC made so much less than TPM is because it was so much less of a kid-friendly movie. RotS will be even less kid-friendly, of course, but it also has a lot more positives on its side that make me think it will be able to make up for further erosion of the kids-under-ten audience.

Perhaps you folks should visit my thread on the Cinema Forum regarding the script for this movie.. I want to hear some opinions on this cause RT seems to be bashing it quite a bit and I want to see if that just RT in general or if it iskin fact as bad as they claim it to be??

I enjoyed the script. But then, I'm used to Lucas' writing style -- most aren't. His scripts are so blandly written (and I mean in terms of format and basic description), so designed to be read by various departments, that they can sometimes be a chore to sit through.

I agree with Arsi there. The mediocrity of the first movie turned non-Harry Potter fans off the series. The opening weekends are similar because they mostly consist of Harry Potter fans who'd see each of the films even if they are absolute crap. Once they've seen it, there is not much of an audience left, so the legs aren't great.
