Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
Soo happy Houston is in the WS. First time I’m living in a city where one of the pro teams is playing for a championship. I’m definitely going to try and get tickets to one of the games this weekend.

Anti-climatic game seven to end an otherwise amazing World Series

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
And we're back!
Sox should've swept the Rays, but I'll take 3-1. Weird start to the year schedule wise. They need to take care of business over the next five because then the Yankees and Orioles come to town. Then they go on a nine game road trip. Six out west (seems early) and then three in Toronto.
Can't read too much into the first four games, but even though they're missing two starters, I like the pitching staff. Sale was Sale and deserved a win, but Price (even though he's always been good against the Rays) looks determined. He closed last year out of the bullpen really damn well, had a great spring, and was flat out dominant in his first game. If that continues, the Sox might (finally) have the best 1-2 in baseball.

Also, I'm not sure if Scottie still posts here, but if he doesn't, is there any way a moderator could change the thread title?

The offense is clicking (Betts!) despite losing Bogaerts and JD Martinez is finally alive. And the pitching is the best in baseball. Plus they made Ohtani their bitch. But it's April (the Dodgers were great last year until they weren't) and the Angels are still good, Oakland is always weird, and Toronto is off to a much better than expected start. Closing out the month and starting May with the Rays and Royals should be a nice cushion though.

Told ya Oakland is always weird. Lost two out of three and got no-hit for the first time in 25 years.

If Cora could stop bringing Kimbrel in for non-save situations, that'd be great.

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Cubs were the best team in the NL for most of the year and ended up not making the real playoffs. Weird.

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
Cubs fell apart in September. They didn't look good that last month. Not sure who will win in the NL. The Dodgers are better on paper but have underperformed all season. The Astrons/Red Sox is essentially the real WS. I can't see the NL beating either team.

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
10 walks, 3 hit batters, and somehow it was only a 1-run game until the 9th. The Astros hitters really kept the Sox in the game, which is frightening because they still won by five runs. And even though he ultimately wasn’t the difference, the home plate umpire sucked ass, and was literally blind on a pitch that went straight down the middle (the “strike-three pitch” to Benintendi with the bases loaded was also embarrassing).
So the Red Sox playoffs hopes rest on the arms of David “0-9 in playoffs/$217 million” Price! Can’t wait! This is sarcasm!

The Red Sox are going back to the World Series. They dominated the Astros beating them 3 times at home. I think that is very impressive. Not sure if the Dodgers or Brewers can beat them.

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
I didn’t expect that. I thought winning one in Houston would be okay. You come back home down 2-3 but at least you’re heading back to Fenway, Two games would be a bonus against that pitching staff. But to take all three in Houston and out score the defending champs 20-9? That’s domination. What’s even kind of more amazing is that the top of the Red Sox lineup isn’t even firing on all cylinders. Betts and Benintendi were a little too quiet in the ALCS. Even Martinez although he homered last night.
I don’t want to get overly confident, but if Price has the playoff monkey off his back now and he can finally relax, then I really like their chances. Sale on 9.5 days rest, Price in Game 2, Eovaldi Game 3, Porcello Game 4, and then Sale again. Cora has managed the pitching staff beautifully.
THE RED SOX WIN THE PENNANT!

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
Yeah I am trying not to get too overconfident, but they dominated the second and third best teams. i guess on paper the Dodgers present the greatest challenge to Boston, but they haven't lived up to expectations much of this season.

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Red Sox did it. Even after losing that 18 inning game in game 3, they came back and won the next two in LA. This is the best Red Sox team of all time (I suppose the 1912 team is comparable). Amazing season so happy they did it.

The Red Sox beat the shit out of everyone. I think this is the tipping point where they become the villainous franchise like the Patriots

Re: 2016 Major League Baseball Discussion
Indians might blow up the team for “small market” reasons. I’ve been hearing this my whole life and am sick of it. Sell the team if you can’t pay for a winner. Or move everybody to New York and California. No other sport is like this. Sure the big markets still have an advantage, but they can’t just spend twice as much as everyone else.
