A Nightmare on Elm Street/Scream predictions
After It and Halloween you don't need a crystal ball to see what's coming next. Assuming they do Nightmare right, get Robert Englund back (Hasn't played him since Freddy vs Jason in 2003, or New Nightmare in 1994 for solo films). 100 mil+ opener? Freddy has potential to be huge with the modern audience. Iconic, killing people in their sleep is terrifying, memorable look that markets well...
Scream is not as much of a lock to happen because the last one with Neve Campbell wasn't that long ago and bombed. Plus self referential horror is just a weirder genre compared to Nightmare where the reboot map is laid out for them. But it could also do well. I think Blumhouse would have to do this one
I think they should leave Friday the 13th on the shelf for now, too similar to Halloween, too much of a tarnished brand
Final Destination??? I'm down

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street/Scream predictions
They already tried to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street and it didn't take off. Don't see it happening again.
Seems more likely that they reboot Poltergeist, Candyman, Children of the Corn, etc.

Seems more likely that they reboot Poltergeist, Candyman, Children of the Corn, etc. Well, they tried Poltergeist recently too, and that was horrendous. Children of the Corn may be too much of a DTV brand with like 15 sequels, but a new Candyman I see more likely, although the original was just a modest hit. I could see Lestat being brought back to screen, although probably not played by Cruise.

Yeah but Poltergeist came and went. Not many will remember it was already remade. But in this new era of bringing back horror, I think they might do it, especially if they focus on the old man-type poltergeist and not the TV angle.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street/Scream predictions
I adore Scream (it's my favorite movie) and would love to see it come back but unfortunately the last didn't do great. Keep the budget lower though and it wouldn't be a huge gamble. Give it a Fall release this time. A huge reason Halloween worked is because they brought Curtis back as Laurie Strode. Heather Langenkamp's Nancy is not as iconic so bringing her back to face off against Freddy would not cause as much excitement. Also they killed her character off, but they also did with Laurie so they could always pretend only the first movie exists .

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street/Scream predictions
Wasn't there a Nightmare remake in 2010 and it opened pretty well?
I guess if there could be a Halloween in 2007 and then this one blows up, the same could happen with Nightmare. They should wait a few years though.
I don't think Scream will ever be huge again, Scary Movie completely ended that franchise for modern audiences. People see the mask and all they think of is horror parody.

The opening weekend gross for Halloween is probably the best thing to happen to the endless legal battles surrounding F13. Everyone has got to be motivated to work that shit out now.

I think Psycho could benefit like Halloween, or maybe even Jaws with some Spielberg involvement.
I was really surprised the Kevin Bacon/ Fred Ward Tremors series didn't get picked up. It looked pretty great. Friday and Nightmare will always be good enough after a few years.

Re: A Nightmare on Elm Street/Scream predictions
Ugh there really is going to be another gigantic batch of horror remakes of the same tired franchises because of this film isn't there?
I wonder if all the iconic original horror films of the last 10-15 years (Saw, Paranormal Activity, The Purge, The Conjuring, The Ring, Get Out, Insidious) will be subjected to an endless remake-a-thon for the next three decades.
