Algren wrote: i.hope wrote: Algren wrote: i.hope wrote: Why has there never been a Halloween-titled movie released around Halloween? Umm, there has been. Most of them, in fact. The first five were all released in October around Halloween. But since 1989 they've all opened earlier and earlier. This is the first Halloween opener in almost 30 years. True. But my question was more about Halloween-titled movies that do not belong to the Michael Myers series. Ah I see. I think Myers does have that monopoly, as you already said. Any straight-up horror with "halloween" in the title would feel like it's trying to piggyback. What I am surprised hasn't been done before is to use some of its AKAs, such as Hallowe'en, Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, etc. Where was this film's theatrical release?

I also think it won't be an It but it can break 50 million

$50-$60M sounds about right to me aswell, but I definitely think it can go higher once the marketing really kicks into gear.

I think it opens on par with the Nun and has a strong second weekend hold, and then plummets for a similar end total around 120-130m.

$150M through the first two weeks and then a swift death after that.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
Some horror movies hold surprisingly decent after Halloween. The godawful Ouija did for a couple weeks after. Ouija: Origin of Evil did the weekend after Halloween. Jigsaw. The Grudge. Happy Death Day. The insane run of The Ring. And as far as movies with Halloween in the title, Boo! A Madea Halloween didn't totally die after Halloween. So Halloween might at least have a decent hold for the first weekend or two after. Interest will of course die off a lot but if it's really well-liked people might still be checking it out.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
The first official tracking numbers from DHD have it opening in the $40-$50M range which is great this early out. I am already seeing a ton of tv spots for it, but it doesn't feel like they have fully kicked the marketing into gear which should only help those numbers go up as well as reviews remaining as strong as they are.

The more I think about it, I really can't see how this sells any less tickets than The Nun despite the R-rating. Reviews, marketing, franchise familiarity, and buzz should propel this to $60m+.

I'm expecting a low 40s OW.

Jack Sparrow wrote: Yeah I didn't think the trailer showed too much I believe its just Mike in this case. Well they did . The spree scene they showed was basically it. There's no way they should have spoiled that. It's a highlight, or at least it would have been if I hadn't seen the entire thing already in that trailer.

Yeah, I was pretty miffed at how much they spoiled in the trailer, in retrospect.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
I agree. There are pretty much no surprises. I avoided reading spoilers about it but it basically doesn't matter because the trailers gave most things away.

Getting IMAX this weekend, which should soften its drop.
