Dil wrote: August would have been a better release date IMO. Right now there isn't a single blockbuster scheduled for that month, although there are quite a few films that should at least be mid sized hits. I still don't understand why studios like to make the summer so top heavy, especially with how bad it was this year. Solo coming out in May also still doesn't feel right, because it seems so rushed, but if they attach a teaser to TLJ than it's probably official. I think there still is a solid chance that Solo moves to December and Deadpool 2 takes its spot.

That would be great as well if Solo moves to December and DP2 takes it spot.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
Hmmmmmm. Opening only two weeks after Avengers 3 seems really bad, but the other release date wasn't much better, coming one week after Solo, two weeks before Incredibles 2, and three weeks before JW2. Still think it should have just moved to the Suicide Squad spot, but I guess studios find August radioactive now for whatever dumb reason?
Interestingly enough, after giving us the second, third, and eighth $100 million openers ever, this is will probably be the first $100+ million opener on the pre-Memorial Day weekend slot since Shrek the Third.

That date won't do it any good. I mean its just 2 weeks after Avengers, that's too early for another superhero movie.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
Not a good move. Avengers will still be doing around $50m on its OW and then it deals with Solo in its second weekend.
Or does this mean Solo is moving?
Agree with Jonathan - August would be perfect for Deadpool.
August 2018 is almost as weak as August 2017 so it still requires a major tent pole (MEG and Predator don't cut it IMO)

Solo must be moving, especially if the talk of reshoots is true.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
I didn't know about the re shoot talks.
I think we've all been expecting it to move to December as it makes sense on so many levels.
If Last Jedi and Jumanji will combine to ~$1B so Disney should not have any major qualms putting Solo and Poppins up against each other (Should combine to over $700m).

I think its a good move to be honest. Solo is losing a lot of its buzz and DP could beat it second weekend if its a big clunker.

Did the original Deadpool really only come out 23 months ago? I feel like this sequel has taken forever

If Solo doesn't move it's going to get At World's End'd. Expect a big drop from Rogue One, maybe under $350m.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
I feel like all of the May films are going to cannibalize one another. Something(s) has to move.
And when does the Disney/Fox buyout go into effect? I know it's sometime this year. It seems stupid for FOX to wedge Deadpool 2 in the middle of the two biggest Disney releases of the year (on paper). It'll undercut both movies. Solo has to be on the move.
Mary Poppins Returns to the Moana/Coco spot Solo to Mary Poppins slot
I think that makes the most sense.

I think that makes the most sense. What about Wreck It Ralph? They’re not going to move another Disney film to Thanksgiving. They could move it to late July or August.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
God damnit. So many Disney movies.
They won't do this, but they could move WIR 2 to February the week after Lego 2. Or July of 2019, but they probably won't want to hold onto it for that long.
They'll probably move Solo to December with Mary Poppins and then just roll around in all the money they'll make.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
Disney already has too many major films schedule for 2018 and 2019. Had they fast tracked Aladdin - they could have released it in place of Solo in May and moved Solo to December (would have also solved the problem of releasing both Aladdin and Lion King in the same summer).
I think Solo and Poppins would work well in the same month - much like Jedi/Jumanji but not sure if Disney would release them a week or two apart.

This is stupid. What's wrong with just releasing Deadpool in October or something? People will go to it

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
Yeah it should actually move to August which is weak again. Otherwise, Sep/Oct have proven bountiful for R Rate films. Especially ones with in-built audiences.
I take it that Solo is moving however.
And I guess - why wouldnt Disney slot Solo in August? Would work IMO.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
It was always going to be tough to follow-up and remain as fresh. But that doesn't mean much for its box office. It can still increase.

Re: Deadpool 2 predictions
The marketing on this one seems REALLY muted, I guess its because of the merger Fox doesn't want to spend much money on it. DP2 gives me vibes of a major decrease from original. Solo should still move to August where it can be the last big summer movie.

I was talking in terms of Fox and not Disney and the former trying to save money but yes I realize that it doesn't work like that.
