December 8-10 Predictions
Really? No thread yet? I know its a dull weekend but come on guys.
The big/only story is Disaster Artist's expansion. I'm expecting it to go very well, but can't make a projection until the actual count is known.

It's going head to head with Jedi? That doesn't seem wise.

Re: December 8-10 Predictions
Yeah so both Alvin and Sisters did great $85m+ for both movies in face of TFA so I think Ferdinand will be fine. The hype for TLJ is MUCH lower than TFA at the same time so it should work at this time.

The logic behind it I think is that even if it's getting dwarfed in opening weekend, it's guaranteed a three week run since nothing opens in its third weekend to take away theaters, so that gives it enough time to recover financially. It was never gonna do that great, but I think it'll work out well enough. Anyway, The Disaster Artist is now at #4 on MT with 4.3%, right between Wonder (4.7%) and Justice League (3.8%). Should comfortably be in third by the end of the night. I don't think it's gonna be as massive as RT does, but I think anything above $5 million in 800 theaters would be really solid.

Re: December 8-10 Predictions
2,146 theaters for Just Getting Started. Seen a bit of marketing but probably still a single-digit opening even with Freeman.

It is not a bad title. Doesn't it just make any Millenial and/or Generation-Zer start singing that Black Eyed Peas song?

Re: December 8-10 Predictions
My theater is only showing Disaster Artist in RPX all weekend. That seems like such a risky gamble, IMO. Matinees alone are $14.50. I get trying to make as much money as possible but now I won't see it here. I'll go down the road and pay half price. Plus, it doesn't seem like the kind of film that needs an RPX screen.

Re: December 8-10 Predictions
The Disaster Artist did $700,000 in previews last night. Deadline says it's looking at a 6-8 Million weekend.

Re: December 8-10 Predictions
Indeed that is really encouraging though I still wonder if Academy will be kind to Franco just yet.
