Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Him being actively involved should already help, really they might best let this character rest for another 10 years or so. Anyway, knowing Hollywood some kind of new Terminator is at some point going to inevitable.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
As long as James Cameron is involved someway should be a better movie than the previous 3

Cameron gave his seal of approval to Genisys and that is the worst film ever made, so..

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
For some reason they had some pull to let him make that statement. It's the same with Lucas coming and saying "I love Rogue One", you just don't know, it's all part of the marketing campaign.

I don't believe Cameron could be coersed into saying something he did not believe. He's not exactly short of a few bob.

I think it was mostly something in the line of: you do this for us, we do this for you.

How many misfires does it take for everyone in Hollywood to realize that audiences do not give a fuck about this franchise anymore?

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I'm actually really psyched. I'd love if they went low budget and changed the entire formula. And you need someone like Cameron to do it. Maybe this could be his Fury Road.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
In a desperate bid to regenerate this dead franchise, Linda Hamilton has signed on to appear in the next piece of shit Terminator flick.

With Tim Miller directing I'm cautiously optimistic. All the rest doesn't matter so much for me yet, but they obviously need an airtight script to making this one sensibly work at this point in the franchise. I'm not even sure why a complete reboot wouldn't work, but with Linda now involved that definitely isn't happening obviously.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I almost feel like rebranding this (ala Prometheus) could be beneficial.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
The only way this could be successful is a rebrand/reboot like Prometheus with James Cameron directing. The last part is essential.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
I actually think this could do pretty well. The post-T3 sequels - hell, even T3 itself - have always felt "tainted." The lack of Cameron, the lack of Hamilton.
Simply showing Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor is going to sell this better to people than GENISYS ever could.
I'm thinking $150-200m domestically, assuming it isn't terrible.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
The series will have to do some crazy kind of U-turn, though. Emilia Clarke was Sarah Connor two years ago, now Hamilton will be her, and Genisys erased the first two Terminator films. The franchise is just totally fucked up now. This new one will have to do a special job of making everything make sense to simpleton Joe Popcorn.
The only way I see this working is if Cameron comes on board as director and says "look, we're making a direct sequel to Terminator 2, you can forget T3, Salvation, and that piece of shit Genisys".

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Cameron won't direct it, but you can be sure as shit they'll sell him in the marketing. "The director of TERMINATOR 2, TITANIC, and AVATAR returns..." Something like that.

Magnus wrote: I honestly don't think Hamilton adds much just on her own as a BO draw for this. but maybe they can make a good movie with her in it cause they haven't made one without her (even if T3 has one of the best endings for one of the most mediocre movies ever)
if the film can feel exciting somehow, it can maybe do Salvation adjusted numbers which would be about 150m. Linda Hamilton is 60 years old and hasn't been relevant in....a lot. She doesn't add much at all. Arnold himself didn't really add anything for Genisys. The only thing that can make this franchise relevant again is James Cameron.

Joe Popcorn won't remember that Genisys erased the timeline. The movie is that forgettable.

Re: New Terminator Sequel - Predictions
Not even Hamilton coming back can get me excited for this which is a shame considering how much I loved her in the first two movies. Maybe if Cameron was actually coming back to direct that would do it, but even then it could suck. That being said you know his name will be all over the marketing and that alone might get it to $100M+, especially if it's coming out around the same time as the Avatar sequel, but not much more.
