Uhhh no. It's not. Because it already happened with H20 and nobody really cared then either.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
If IT is fueling this enthusiasm in the new Halloween then you're totally off on it because there are MORE than enough Halloween movies for people not to need another one and rush out to see it and make a $120m opening weekend.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
It will depend on how they reboot it, and actually H20 did pretty well made 85 million, and was easily the most successful Halloween film since the first one.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
If your talking about the next IT than no it won't come anywhere close to that, but I could see it doing well enough on it's own. Curtis and Carpenter coming back has at least got me curious , but it really will depend on the marketing and the reviews, because I do believe people still want another great Halloween movie.
The Rob Zombie films soured the brand even more than the previous films though.

Yeah it might not seem as much these days, but considering how many mediocre sequels H20 was coming off of it's performance is still pretty impressive. I do wonder how they are going to utilize Curtis in this one considering her return to the franchise was already used as a gimmick back then?

They killed her of in the next one. I wonder if they are just going to ignore that film.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
They killed her off in Part 4 too.
Honestly if they did H40, this should have no problem, and do another substance based halloween film (Most hated Zombie's films, so really H20 is the last one people liked) it should have no problem doing 40+ OW if marketed well.
My only problem with that though is that, they are trying to make a real series again. You can't have her kill him again and do a one off. That's why Resurrection was so fucked. I Mean JLC is close to or over 70 already. and Michael is her older brother, that right alone is a more interesting film, A geriatric slasher movie.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
H20 was big when it came out. It wasn't quite Scream, but it was a pretty big hit. Considering the last few films were doing 10-20 million total.

That's what they have said with every Halloween film (bar the Rob Zombie ones) since the 90s. Franchises don't end. Ever.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
That's the problem. Both times they tried to end it, they were massively successful. That's kind of fascination of the Halloween franchise. It never tried to be the endless churning of F13, NOES, or even in the case of TCM reboot doing so well. It's always been forced into it. Either way, I'm down for any Halloween without Zombie, and give JLC true justice after the pitiful end in Resurrection.
Just do H20, but do it even better, and I'll be happy. Carpenter is the only thing that worries me. He seems out of his mind these days.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
They have never truly tried to end it. Studios and producers saying it is the end is purely a marketing gimmick. It's in the same vein as a day before release of any film these days an exec will say a sequel is in the works. It is a ploy to show confidence in the opener. Saying it is the last is another ploy, but instead to drum up business. No studio honestly expects it to be the last.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
H20 was a huge deal when it came out. Presence of JLC makes fanbase take it much more serious. Generation Z is taking over the marketplace and they're more traditional than their millennials counters. They are seemingly obsessed with newer versions of things that used to be huge, be it jurassic park, Star Wars, or IT. They will be game for their own version of Halloween.
Good reviews and this will easily do 40m+ OW as Thegun noted, perhaps more.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
lol, Excel. Yes, name two four-quadrant blockbusters and It (which had only 10% of its opening audience under 18 years old) as your proof that "Halloween H40" will attract Generation Z and make it a huge hit. You never fail to make me laugh.

This is going to be a direct sequel to Halloween '81, so the entries following that will be ignored. I think this is going to be huge. It's been a LONG time since I've seen so much excitement on Facebook about a movie than when they announced she was coming back. Also, I got a TON of likes on my status about it, most people aren't even movie people. H20 was a big deal when it came out for sure, but I was only eight when it came out and didn't see it until it was released on video. Many, MANY people who love the franchise are in the same boat. This is going to be an event.

Is this the same Halloween that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are doing?

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
H20 was a bit of a big deal when it opened in 98. It also opened the same weekend as Snake Eyes to about the exact same OW gross and ended up with about the same total too.

Re: Halloween 2018 - JLC Returns
Should at least do solid business but it really depends how it looks and the reception. It's obviously not touching IT. I wouldn't even expect it to reach that film's opening weekend in total.
