Sing
Quote: Sing is a 2016 American 3D computer-animated musical comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment.[3] It was directed and written by Garth Jennings and co-directed by Christophe Lourdelet.[1] The film stars the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Tori Kelly, Taron Egerton, and Nick Kroll.
The film has more than 85 classic songs from famous artists and also has an original song by Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande called "Faith".[4] It premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2016[5] and will be released by Universal Pictures on December 21, 2016.

Re: Sing
It's cute and enjoyable fluff and the musical numbers are great. It's not necessarily the most memorable or deep film but families should eat it up. The vocal cast does a good job. The biggest issue this movie has is the awful, hugely obnoxious Seth MacFarlane character that should have been excised from the film completely. Otherwise, it's well worth checking out. B

Re: Sing
Another eh effort from Illumination this year in my opinion. Although I liked this one better than Pets, it's not particularly good. There isn't really any characters I found myself interested in really due to poor characterization/development. The ending performances are enjoyable, sure, but it would've been nice to feel for these characters as opposed to apathy.

Re: Sing
Illumination is taking up the DWA role now. Their movies are beginning to become the good but not great ones. The single line idea and execution are just what DWA had in its earlier days. Its enjoyable movie though I am not sure if families would particularly LOVE this. If you are interested in songs then this will be good but otherwise its not everyone's cup of tea. The kids in my screenings never laughed aside from a couple of pig scenes.

Re: Sing
This is like Pitch Perfect but animated and less interesting. Another movie inspired by Glee.

It's okay, but quite forgettable. C+
And just like Pets, Sing would have made for a better animated short rather than a full-length feature.

Sing
It's fun stuff but I was quite bored throughout. Couldn't wait for it to be over. There are some funny, cute moments such as the Japanese dance group and a few lines here and there, but it's no Angry Birds Movie. They're obviously going for the mainstream but the use of pop songs in this really turned me off. The Secret Life of Pets is a better film.

Re: Sing
It was alright, in that most attempts at humor are just deadpan silly, but it has good voice acting and a musical repertoire I mostly like. It's noticeably a kids film throughout, with a pretty dull screenplay but it becomes passable whenever a song plays. It also could have used a more zippy-zappy run-time to make for a more quip watch. It's fine, not very memorable, but light entertainment with several good bits (right dose of german pig, japanese group of which I was there was more).

Re: Sing
Yes. Comedic highlights are definitely the German pig and the Japanese dance group. Annoying characters were the shy elephant and the streetwise rat.

Re: Sing
Yeah, agree on those annoying characters. Film hits it with some good ones and misses with others. It's about on the same level as Secret Life of Pets, but more importantly it's way better than Minions. Illumination isn't too bad. Not a fan of most of their films, but to some of the family friendly appeal I can relate. Noticed a typo here: stuffp wrote: (right dose of german pig, japanese group of which I wish there was more). And didn't add a grade, but that would be: B-

Re: Sing
I didn't see Minions, but I saw Despicable Me 2, which alright. But it is clear that Illumination are not making classics to stand the test of time.

Pointless and highly unmemorable DWA mess. It also weirdly deals with the themes of mobsters and law breaking for a kids movie as it states twice it's OK to steal if you get away with it and that it's good to lie and cheat if you have good intentions.
The sad thing is I actually found all characters enjoyable.

I think it's okay to steal food if you will starve otherwise.

So your "solution" doesn't really work for them.

Re: Sing
The definition of manipulative. The film itself is generic to the core, but who isn't going to jam out to the pop tunes? Illumination seems to be completely creatively bankrupt. There's no reason for these characters to be animals. Sing is to Zootopia as Shark Tale is to Finding Nemo.

Re: Sing
I don't think Illumination is "completely" creatively bankrupt. Their problem is that their great one-liner ideas (even though not original and creatively good re-invent) are unable to sustain through a feature length.
