Mike wrote: But you had said THE RING 2 wouldn't make more than 30 Million or something so you were wrong too. You underpredicted. It ended up opening with more than 35 Million. If that's all THE RING 2 can muster up then THE AMITYVILLE HORROR won't be able to make that much. It's only 67% FRESH now with 6 positive and 3 negative reviews. And the fresh rating will eventually go down more. Reviews don't always mean something. It's how the movie looks. And while THE AMITYVILLE HORROR will do solid and could open around 30 Million, it won't come anywhere near 50 Million.
Also, I guess you don't pay much attention to how much Box Office Guru predicts for each movie because if you did you'd know that they predicted 36 Million for THE RING 2, which was pretty much dead-on. They didn't highly overpredict it. Your hit to miss ratio is much, much worse than theirs, no offense. Sure I think they'll be wrong on AMITYVILLE and it will make more than that, but they'll be closer with their prediction than you'll be with yours.
I can see now that once you end up being wrong on its opening you'll be saying it will have incredible legs though and will end up making 200 Million or better, being one of the highest grossers of the year .
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!! [-X I predicted the RING II between 35-39 Million for the weekend and I was right about it just like I'm gonna be this weekend with the Amityville Horror and lightening striking twice..

I'll be the 1st to say now that this movie will have incredible legs and make ALOT more than both RING II and The Grudge did in the overall theatrical run.. You watch.. I will be right about this..

Cursed near 40M? Did you see the trailer?

I'll second that. If it's really better than other recent horror movies then the WOM will spread quickly.

I was impressed. =D> He then said Miss Congeniality 2 would open to the same number. Well, to be fair, we all have some misses.
The thing is that people constantly make fun of BKB so much, whenever he's right about a movie everyone acts totally shocked like all of a sudden he's become a master prognistactor despite the fact he constantly shot down the Lord of the Rings movies, said White Noise would open over 40 million, AVP would make over 250 million, Hulk over 400 million, and that Constantine would bomb. Those are all the ones that come to mind immediately, but the fact is that if you always lambast someone and act like they're never right, any victory they have seems like a huge one.

Folks, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I suck at predicting box office for movies as evident with the movies Moviedude has posted above.. I never claim to be perfect or even good at them and for all I know, I could be wrong about Amityville's box office and as a result, I wouldn't be surprised by it nor phased by it either.. In the end, I could honestly give a fuck how much this movie or any movie really makes, but I just have fun trying my hand at it.. I also have fun at poking fun at myself when I am wrong which is rare for someone to do these days.. When I'm wrong, if I'm ever wrong, you can sure bet that someone will take this so seriously and to the Max to make absolute certain I know about it, that in the end, I simply laugh at it cause life goes on and the next movie is around the corner.. If I'm wrong at the end of this weekend?? I'll change my signature and honor my bet to whomever bet me, even if takes 3 months to complete.. I really think though that this movie is gonna do alot better than folks think it will, bad reviews or good reviews, it won't matter cause it's critic proof.. I take full pleasure in getting on people's nerves cause that's what I do best, that's what the Ultimate Troll does at my finest moment and I especially love it over at RT when I occasionally channel someone to post for me like I have right now.. I love it and I love how the folks at RT take this oh so seriously like it's a matter of life or death if someone like me goes against the grain over there.. Currently, I'm having an absolute field day with some idiot that calls himself Fabfunk cause of his review of the Amityville Horror.. He panned it citing it was stupid and that he doesn't like Ryan Reynolds.. Congratulations.. What a review that was cause he didn't like the source material or has a perpetual hardon against Ryan Reynolds.. In the end though, I'm having a blast with this and couldn't be more happier than I am right now, really.. Hope that helps folks to understand where I'm coming from..

It could definitely finish with more than THE RING 2 (it could make like 82 Million and have finished with more than THE RING 2), but it won't make more than that shitty GRUDGE, even if AMITYVILLE will likely be much better.
Anyway, I'd bet BKB that AMITYVILLE won't open with 50 Million and would have it so if I won he'd have to have something like, " HIGH TENSION will be the best horror movie of the year - much better than THE AMITYVILLE HORROR" in his signature, but his signature is already going to be being used by a ton of people . But BKB, if you think you can find room in your sig I'm in .

Man, I've lost count as to how many folks I bet over this.. It's gonna be confusing to say the least.. I also don't quite grasp why you feel this movie has no chance at beating The Grudge?? Explain this cause if anything, it sure does have a very good chance at doing so, especially with some of the reviews saying it's both better than The Grudge and the RING II combined.. Seriously, if this has to do with the R-Rating and all, then I'm just at a loss over this whole ratings nonsense.. If someone wants to see a movie Mike, whether it's PG-13 or Rated-R, They'll do it, even if they have to order their tickets online which will prevent them from being carded.. I can't imagine that theatres REALLY card that many moviegoers over a films rating.. No way..

Then I'm sure you'll love that gratuitous shot of him chopping wood with those 6 pack abs of his.. That's also 1 of the complaints I see in some reviews is that the producers got someone like Reynolds with such impeccable abs, yet, it's supposed to depict the 70's and no one back then had 6 pack abs.. Christ, Talk about being a little too nitpicky if you ask me..

It's not necessarily the ratings thing, it's just that THE GRUDGE made over 100 Million and I don't see this one doing the same. And the movie will likely end up with reviews only a little better than those of THE GRUDGE since AMITYVILLE is now rotten at Rotten Tomatoes. But don't think I'm against AMITYVILLE and want it to fail because I'm not, and I do think it will do solid business, I just don't think it will be huge. If I could choose I'd definitely rather have it make more than THE GRUDGE. THE GRUDGE sucked! As for theaters being strict about "R" rated movies, they have gotten much more strict than they used to be in my opinion. I used to never get carded when I was underage, but then the last couple of years I get carded all of the time when I go to see an "R" movie. Even my brother who is 28 but looks like he's in his 40's has gotten carded. Some theaters actually require you to card EVERYONE when it's an "R" rated movie, even when it's obvious to you that the person is old enough, even if they look like senior citizens. It's ridiculous, but that's the way it is. At those theaters if you're caught not carding someone you'd get in trouble, even if they look old. If you really want to see an "R" movie I'm sure you can find a way to get in if you aren't old enough, but they have gotten stricter and it does make it harder for people under 17 to get into them. It all depends on the theater.

See?? I saw a screening of this movie this afternoon, which I'm really tired right now and have to work all night and the Theatre was really lenient on this, but normally I never have encountered this problem.. At any rate, I'd like to post my review of this movie and do so briefly without making this review into some long epic review, but the shortend of this was that I'm very pleased agive this remake a "B+" ... I orignally was gonna give it an "A" but after my fanboyism calmed down and I was able to lok at the BIG PICTURE here, I decided that a fair review of this stands at a "B+" which is very good.. I just don't want to start a whole new thread for this ans would appreciate the MODS to put the movie up at the review forum so I can post it..

Well I'm glad you were able to put your fanboyism on hold and give it a fair rating. I thought for sure you'd give it an A+. But I know how it is when you're really excited about something or see something that you really love, it can be hard to fairly rate it and you need time to let it marinate .

I don't know. The trailer is great, the theatre count of over 3,300 is splendid and the reviews are decent for the genre. I don't see it making less than $25 million this weekend.
