You don't see that you have agreed with me? Christians are trying to combat the removal of their values into our politics, where they should not have been in the first place. You're pushing your religion into our laws where it doesn't belong.

Leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. Don't like abortions or gay marriage? No one is forcing you to have an abortion or get gay married. Just stop telling us what we can do.

I wonder how many of the donated cash Mrs. Stein "has to" take for herself for her effort.

I hate Trump but that "we have to recount" shit comes now every time. Fix the fucking election system first.

Exactly. The major hurdle to clear here is that while there are many open-minded Christians who agree with that idea, there are plenty of very vocal ones who believe that their values represent the ultimate moral authority and should absolutely guide politics. It's incredibly difficult to try and reason on a "you do you" level with people who genuinely believe that their religious perspective represents the absolute and highest truth. (And it gives Christians with pretty liberal, tolerant views - like myself - a bad name by association.)

That argument works for gay marriage but not for abortions, "just let us do what we want and you can do what you want" idea doesn't allow you to murder, the argument once again comes down to when life starts and when the fetus has rights

Huh? If the scientific community has come to a conclusion on when "life starts", then abortion is not "murder".

I assume you are referring to life starting as when the baby may be sentient? Are all babies "alive" at the same time? They all grow at slightly different rates, there should be a range of time, checked by an OB/GYN rather than a black and white 24 week cutoff. Because how different is a 23 week 6 day baby from a 24 week one day baby? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the regulation.

And even if the baby can't feel it, it's still a chance at "life" that is being taken away regardless of whether it is "alive". Should that not be at least tried to be avoided?

Well, see, that's the problem. If it's not "alive" then it's not "life" -- but most anti-abortion people don't care about that distinction. It's "alive" to them from the moment of conception.

Very very few abortions are ever performed at that last stage, anyway. Way less than 1%. And when they are, it is almost always because of the health of the mother or the baby is involved.

No one -- NO ONE -- is saying there should be unlimited abortion at any time. Arguments which use that as a basis are being dishonest. Everyone agrees there should be limits based on proper scientific and medical evidence.

Post Re: President Trump
One thing that confuses me about Evangelical theology is why they'd even be opposed to abortion if they actually believe in the Great Commission and its implication that the primary purpose of a Christian's life is to save as many souls as possible from eternal damnation. Evangelicals believe that the vast majority of the world population (and indeed even a great deal many of those who would nominally identify as "Christian") are unsaved and therefore destined for hell, but there's exemption for children below the "age of accountability."

Basically, for those who assume this theological worldview, 100% of aborted fetuses are given a one-way ticket to eternal life in heaven to bask in God's glory forever and ever (or w/e), but the vast majority of those kids would end up in hell if they'd been allowed to grow up otherwise. I realize that Evangelicals try to counter with some sort of "well, that's not God's plan for life" (i.e., to just die before having the chance to live it) argument, but it seems to me that if you're going to assume those premises as true then abortion is kind of the best favor you could be doing the fetus?

A German newssite reports that they will recount now?

Is that true?

I think a recount is going to look bad for Hillary and the Dems. What's done is done. Unless they can find proof the Russians did any hacking, I'm sure things will, more or less, add up.

Which is exactly what someone would say if Election 2016 was anything close to normal.

As much as the Dems want a recount, due to her ever growing popular vote lead, Jill Stein initiated it.

Also, if Trump is claiming there are MILLIONS of people voting illegally, then yes, there should be a recount. Just to make sure Hillary stomped his ass.

I believe a lot of states restrict it after 24 weeks? A lot at 12 weeks? And some have no limit?

You would normally have your first OBGYN appointment at 12 weeks, so I'd say if you make it to 12, you're probably keeping the baby 98% of the time. Fetus is viable at 24 weeks. I'd certainly say that if the mother is in no danger, and the baby is healthy, 18 weeks is probably a correct time to limit it. And after that only in a matter of health. But again, these are just ideas, I'd prefer a woman make the choice on her own.

What good would turning Wisconsin do anyways? Maybe Jill Stein should have, you know, not run if she so desperately hated the idea of a Trump presidency.

On the other hand, Trump freaking out about this is also very worrisome. Should have just shrugged it off and said good luck. Ranting on twitter is gonna make enable and empower the recounters.

Trump will just keep on ranting about anything he doesn't like on Twitter and make a mockery of being an actual President, but that's what his supporters want. He can't suddenly turn all civil and take the high road now.

It's kind of alarming to see him keep up the same tired shtick on Twitter now that he's President-Elect. Talk about beating a dead horse.
